This is a combo deck that trades in speed for resilience and variety. You won't be able to combo off consistently early, but should be able to fight through any non-exile removal you encounter. The influence of green on the deck also means you'll be able to defend yourself better and have larger creatures than a blue-focused combo deck.
The deck has several different lines available, most of which share pieces. We don't have much card draw available, though, and our only available tutors are for auras, so the main way to dig through the deck is to self mill and then try to recur the important cards. All of the recursion for getting our cards out of the grave also makes this deck very resilient to removal, as well. Grave hate shouldn't be a deathblow to the deck, since no one piece getting exiled stops all the combos.
Combos:
There are several available combos in the deck, so I will just list them:
-
Renegade Rallier + Angelic Renewal + Ashnod's Altar = infinite colorless mana and 'when a creature enters the battlefield or dies’ triggers. This mana can also be used to repeatedly cast Rallier from the command zone for WG each time, allowing you to grab potential outlets from your grave. If you use Fanatical Devotion instead of the altar, you just get infinite regeneration (for your other creatures) and etb/dies triggers.
-
Renegade Rallier + Antler Skulkin + Ashnod's Altar + Ivy Lane Denizen = pull every permanent with CMC<3 out of your grave, into play (and infinite etb/death triggers). This includes any lands. With things like Sakura-Tribe Elder and Elvish Visionary, this means you can pull every land from your library into play, or draw your whole library.
-
Safehold Elite + Ivy Lane Denizen + Ashnod's Altar / Fanatical Devotion = infinite colorless mana or infinite regeneration for other creatures.
-
Tethmos High Priest + Llanowar Druid + Whip Silk + Strider Harness = infinite green mana (so long as you have at least 4 forests in play) and infinite etb/dies triggers.
-
Pili-Pala + Ashnod's Altar + Presence of Gond = infinite colored mana and elf tokens.
-
Devoted Druid / Barrenton Medic + Presence of Gond + Ivy Lane Denizen / Sigil of the Nayan Gods = infinite elf tokens.
-
Midnight Guard + Presence of Gond = infinite elf tokens.
The main outlets for the infinite mana combos are either Prismite + Vivien's Grizzly letting you draw all the creatures in your deck, Pili-Pala + Viridian Longbow for infinite damage, or things like Wildheart Invoker, Ivy Lane Denizen, Oran-Rief Invoker, Rising Populace, and Unruly Mob giving you one or more infinitely large creatures. Strider Harness / Midnight Guard + Viridian Longbow can also be used with most of the recursion/infinite mana loops to cause infinite damage. Court Street Denizen can also be used with the Rallier combo to tap down each opponents’ creatures during their upkeeps.
Another possible way to use the infinite mana from the Tethmos combo is to then resurrect and sac Heart Warden to draw your deck. Portcullis Vine in the maybeboard could also be used in this way, although it only works because of strider harness giving it haste.
Non-Combo Options:
Even when it doesn't go infinite, Tethmos High Priest (with either of the auras that can be returned to your hand) is one of the best value engines in the deck, allowing you to do things like sac and res things like Spore Frog, Tragic Poet, Qasali Pridemage, or Heart Warden once each turn cycle.
There are also a fair number of auras in the deck, allowing for some moderate voltron action. In testing, I have had a Thraben Inspector suited up so that it was a 13/14 with trample. With options like Talons of Wildwood, Moldervine Cloak, and the ability to get enchantments back from the grave with our creatures, these threats can be rebuilt pretty easily if they are removed.
Another feat of this deck in testing has been surviving an Ulamog's Crusher swinging at it for 5 turns before being able to combo off, just because it can recur so many sacrificed permanents.
Future Improvements:
I am trying to find more compact ways to use infinite colorless mana, as well as more pieces that can do loops with Tethmos High Priest.
