Restore Balance, As it was Foretold

Modern Control Goodstuff WU (Azorius)

DMFF

Sideboard

Hello everyone! Today I bring to you a super sweet control deck featuring As Foretold + Restore Balance as a great way to control the board. Amulet and Ramp decks beware, balance will soon be restored!

As Foretold is a great engine for us to play cards without tapping mana. While it becomes more useful as the game goes on, it can also be useful right away for some cards that we've chosen to run due to the nature of the card

  • Restore Balance is the premier card of the deck. It offers a boardwipe and mana thinning of decks with more land than us. Due to the nature of how this card works, we will most likely want to let our opponent take the play. If by turn 4, our opponent has hit all their lands, we'll want to cast this before our land drop to put us way ahead of our foe!
  • Ancestral Vision is a wonderful draw spell and acts just like Ancestral Recall. We can also suspend this early on to refill our hand for the mid game.
  • Lotus Bloom can easily be cast with our awesome enchantment for free or can be suspended turn one to the same effect. It's basically our deck's version of the coveted Black Lotus.

This Restore Balance deck is totally a control build, so of course we run some other control cards to help our plan along.

  • Cryptic Command is one of the best counterspells and toolbox cards in blue for modern.
  • Path to Exile is great spot removal and can help our opponents ramp, just to have those lands destroyed by Restore Balance.
  • Mana Leak is our best countermagic at 2 mana.
  • Supreme Verdict is better for when our opponent has a low to the ground strategy and/or a combo deck based around creatures.
  • Teferi, Hero of Dominaria is super strong and has rightfully found his home in many control decks.
  • Field of Ruin is helpful later on when we have gotten our foe to go through their basics. We run 7 basics total.
  • Serum Visions card draw and scry 2 is just good.
  • Sphinx's Revelation is some good mid/lategame draw and lifegain. Helps against Burn or aggro.
  • Snapcaster Mage giving any of our spells flashback. Our suspend spells can be cast for free!
  • Spell Queller is a useful little pseudo-counter on a 2/3 flying body.
  • Panoptic Mirror Can cast our 2 suspend cards.

  • Geist of Saint Traft is a singleton here to be able to give us some good damage out of nowhere.

  • Celestial Colonnade has the neat function of being a land that swings for 4 and remains untapped! Amazing Card!
  • Sphinx's Revelation can end up winning against aggro if they don't have enough burn left to kill us.
  • This was Restore Balance As it was Foretold, a control deck in modern. If you have any questions or suggestions, drop a comment below!
