RG Dinosaurs (Competitive M20 Standard))

Standard* RG (Gruul)

KalamMekhar

Sideboard

The moment I saw Marauding Raptor spoiled in M20, I knew I had to start brewing RG Dinos. The sweet, sweet feeling of curving T2 Marauding into T3 Ripjaw, draw and swing for 4 is just too tempting. You also get to run the best card to never see Standard play, Regisaur Alpha. Reggie alone pumps your Marauding Raptor twice and facing 7 damage across two bodies is no joke. Of course, the catch is that your creatures need to be able to take a hit from the Raptor and live. Or do they? Raptor Hatchling is a 1 mana 3/3 with a Marauding out. That's just value! Aside from the Hatchling, though, all creatures in this list can take a hit (and some can even take two). Charging Monstrosaur is for all intents and purposes a Reality Smasher. Shifting Ceratops is an exciting new addition that looks like a real Teferi-slayer. Drover of the Mighty, though not a dino, is a synergistic mana dork that won't die to the Raptor, and is relevant both early and late game. Gruul Spellbreaker is also not a dino, but is just the best 3 drop in these colours, and this deck was running low on maindeck 3 drops, since the presence of the Raptor means Deathgorge Scavenger can't be included, and there aren't enough enchantments/artifacts in the current meta to justify maindecking Brontodon. The Spellbreaker is a great way to recover from having your turn 2 play bounced by Teferi, and grants added protection to you and your creatures during your turn. The other 3 drop in the maindeck is the new Domri: ramp, removal, and anthem, all on one card. Shocks and Lightning Strikes round out the removal.

The sideboard features a playset of Nullhide Ferox, a great card against all these planeswalker decks that seem to be running rampant. Ferox also destroys Nicol Bolas decks. The rest of the sideboard includes artifact/enchantment removal (Brontodon), anti control/Teferi (Ceratops), flier removal (Collision/Colossus), removal against Phoenix and such (Lava Coil), and a sweeper against weenie aggro (Flame Sweep).

Things I did not include (that I might end up including if I change my mind): Carnage Tyrant (Shifting Ceratops does most of the things you want from Tyrant), Rhythm of the Wild (Teferi has driven counterspells out of the format for the most part, although the riot is sweet), Llanowar Elves (doesn't survive Raptor and too many maindeck Shocks these days for this to have the desired impact), Thunderherd Migration (not a ramp deck), Ranging Raptors (too low impact in the absence of the Raptor, better in a dedicated enrage shell), Immortal Sun (too expensive and doesn't stop passives), Commune with Dinosaurs (don't have the time to durdle), new Vivien (flash isn't great in this Teferi world), RNA Domri (lots of 4 drops in the deck already, although I did look at it), Savage Stomp (unreliable and a blank against creatureless decks), Reckless Rage (same as earlier, but I do like this one, if the meta shifts more creature-heavy I'll look at it)

Please let me know what you think and help me make this deck better!
