Maybeboard

This deck is my oceanic themed deck. Other people use Thassa, but Lorthos is to powerful to not use.

I've linked this deck to the EDH subreddit quite a bit, specifically on people asking for sea creature decks or different mono blue decks. At the end of the day this deck does have elements of control, being able to repeatedly bounce the board, buying time until you hit critical mana and can start Lorthosing players, which is an easy path to victory. I've had token wins with Homarid Spawning Bed, which is a much stronger card than it looks. Card draw and ramp are on the low end, but finding pieces to add is becoming tedious. This is my favorite deck, and the one I work on the most, and probably play the most.

Running low on cards to cut since I really like the way the deck plays at the moment. With more games played I might find something to remove.

-1 Waterspout Elemental, Cyclonic Rift, Stormtide Leviathan, Inkwell Leviathan, Faerie Trickery, Rhystic Study

+1 Coastal Breach, Engulf the Shore, Trench Gorger, Coral Atoll, Mystic Confluence, Coastal Piracy

I lived the dream with Waterspout once (it helped me win a game), but its so bad that I have to remove it now.

Removing Rift is ridiculous! Why would any one do that! Well, because it isn't technically on theme, and I should have enough alternatives (worse I know) that using this Rift in another deck is the way to go. The next wild cut will likely be Rhystic Study when they finally print a good draw engine sea creature; Stormtide Kraken doesn't count because my commander will rarely be in play enough to make it work. When I play Lorthos, the game normally ends a few turns later.

Stormtide shuts down so many of my creatures, too, so switching it for one of the heaviest hitters in possible seems good.

Cutting Inkwell hurts, since he was one of the original beaters, but this deck is getting overwhelming support with every new set, and he just doesn't stack up in pure power or utility. The extra land will go a loooong way to making this deck more consistent, and a bounce land will help smooth out draws.

Trickery is a decent counter spell, but like most of the others it is off theme. Mystic is 2 extra mana, but comes with a lot of extra utility, and is only less likely to counter a spell in a scenario where you'd likely lose any way (near infinite mana). Plus, the art appears to have water in it, a lot of it, so likely takes place on a coast or a sea-type battle, making it on theme, at least more so than a Faerie card.

Cutting study hurts, but its always been on the short list. I was waiting for good repeatable draw before doing so, but I think now is the time to make the switch to Piracy.
