Robot Soul (Modern - Budget)

Modern Affinity Aggro Budget Colorless Competitive

JakeMG

This is my budget variant of the popular affinity/robots deck. The usual budget form runs a playset of Myr Enforcer, Steel Overseer, Signal Pest. That is more of the swarm tactic. If you want to dump your hand and buff your dudes into an impressive board state and overrun your opponent then I would suggest turning to that route.

The classic affinity deck style is meant to seamlessly switch between swarm and enchantment style attacks using Arcbound Ravager and instant speed Cranial Plating. When you're limited to a budget deck it's best to choose one style and build the deck around that. This is the enchantment, single, explosive dude style.

An ideal turn 1 generally has either Vault Skirge, Signal Pest, or Ornithopter on the battlefield, with an Ensoul Artifact or Cranial Plating in hand. Along with any of these scenarios, it's a good idea to have a Welding Jar in play to make sure your win-con stays alive. If you're going for Etched Champion, then it's best to have a Springleaf Drum in play accompanied by either of the 0 drop creatures to make it active. Putting down Etched Champion on turn 3 is not ideal as you want to be swinging in for lethal on turn 4 or 5 at the latest.

This deck is fairly certain to win you plenty of games at FNM (depending on your meta, of course) but it is of course a budget deck so don't expect to day 2 at a GP.
