Ruric Thar From Nowhere

Commander / EDH Combo RUG (Temur)

Shiek200

Maybeboard

Enchantment (2)

Artifact (1)

So this deck has been a concept I've been mulling over in my head for a few weeks now.

The first thing you'll notice is that the deck is primarily a spellslinger deck, and only contains two creatures. Next you'll probably notice that one of these creatures is Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. That's because he's our primary win-con. The deck may seem a little all over the place, but let me assure you, it absolutely is all over the place.

Step one: Group hug.

Lull your opponents into a false sense of security. Give them mana, give them tokens, give them cards hell, even give them free spells. Of course this is all just part of our master plan.

Step two: Control and Staying Alive.

Inevitably any group hug deck will need to begin reining in the chaos that they've allowed to ensue, or at least make sure we can survive it. Cloudstone Curio and Overburden help ensure that only the creatures that WE give them are allowed to remain in play, Metallurgic Summonings can keep our board full of blockers and Cyclonic Rift alone can set our opponents back multiple turns even with the help we've given them.

Step three: Reveal Your Evil Plan.

Now comes the moment when your schemes come to fruition. You've got your commander out, you've got a few tokens in play, and you've got plenty of lands, maybe even a Heartbeat of Spring . Now we cast a simple unassuming Polymorph, and out of nowhere, Ruric Thar. But wait, there's more. With Riku you copy the Polymorph and an Emrakul, the Promised End hits as well, who is then immediately returned to your hand, courtesy of Cloudstone Curio. Suddenly you Whir of Invention an Omen Machine and a Mindslaver into play. What's this? Furnace of Rath? and that Wild Evocation from earlier? Now you just sit back and grin evilly as you force your opponents to use all of that mana you gave them to burn them to cinders. Laugh maniacally as all of those extra cards they drew become their undoing. Wag your finger disapprovingly at their willingness to simply accept your free spells. Then put this deck away in a box under your bed because you'll probably never get to pull this off again.

Obviously this is not a competitive EDH deck, but I think it has a lot of charm and I've never seen anyone build around Ruric Thar this way, so let me know what you guys think!
