Lore:

Planeswalkers Notes: Kaladesh

A very mana rich plane, Kaladesh is regarded as the closest to our technology the Magic universe has to Earth. Very close to the Blind Eternities, it is common place to see aether powered vehicles and artificers. That being said, natural mages are hard to find and pyromancy is completely outlawed. There is a distinct lack of religion, where science has ruled the plane for some time. It is also notable as being the birthplace of Chandra Nalaar.

Planeswalker's Notes: Saheeli Rai

Saheeli Rai is a brilliant inventor who specialized in making lifelike creations made with metal and infused with Aether. She can transmute metal, and is considered one of the smartest upon the plane of Kaladesh as well as having a supportive and bubbly personality. Due to these reasons, we recommend keeping on her good side. Failing that, RUN. Run far away. And for all that is holy, don't look back.

Why play Saheeli?:

  • Because solitaire is just another game you can prove you're better at.

  • Because you like locking down boards and destroying hopes and dreams.

  • Because the jokes about Izzet being broken aren't only jokes anymore.

  • Because you're looking for something cheapish that can ideally lock a lot of people out.

Our ideal hands:

Ideally, our opening hand is:

  • 2-3 lands, (to start casting spells) optimally an artifact land.

  • Draw spell - this can be Rhystic Study to something as simple as Thirst for Knowledge . Saheeli can empty her hand fast.

  • Stax pieces or Artifacts - surprisingly, Saheeli is not only good at drawing Stax pieces but she's also a wonderful as a general artifact deck. In this world, she's both very important to either game plan. And you'd be best not to forget it.

Ideal match ups and how to play:

Biggest flaw that Saheeli pilots can do is run next to no artifacts. With well over 30% of the deck being artifacts in some form in this list, we have no shortage of ideas. And ideas we run include locking down everyone else and their pesky friends too.

Sure, this isn't cEDH worthy. But it's lockdown at it's finest - where all you need is your general and a lot of different ways to make your opponents suffer. It may not look like much but trust me, the cost reduction is absurd at times. Free Blightsteels are not unheard of.
