This is my version of the Sultai Control deck that is everywhere right now. There are a few Sultai colored control decks floating around at my LGS but when everyone talks about Sultai decks, they point at me as the guy with the "Salty" Sultai control deck.
With that being said, I really need suggestions on making this deck both better in general and also better post-DtK. Any and all suggestions will be considered.
This particular deck does have a transformative SB, but I change it so often that no one knows what to expect in G2 or G3 with a few exceptions to that rule. I would like to keep a transformative SB but again, any and all suggestions needed.
Cards are sorted into 2 categories: Stall Tactics/Tackling Fuel and Wincons.
STALL TACTICS/TACKLING FUEL
HIDESatyr Wayfinder: This is the best ramper for control right now, period. Fuels delve and gets you land drops=da best.
Thoughtseize: If you're a black deck you play Thoughtsieze. 'Nuff said.
Crux of Fate: Board clears are good.
Drown in Sorrow: For when you need a board clear but for rampers and small schtuff. Token hate.
Bile Blight: Same as Drown in Sorrow, but at instant speed and more for spot removal. More token hate.
Hero's Downfall: All-purpose kill spell. A must in my local meta which is planeswalker heavy.
Sultai Charm: A card with a real can-do attitude. Need a Rabblemaster or Stormbreath or Whisperwood gone? Done. Need a Vault or Whip gone? No problem! Stupid Wayfinder sitting in your hand late game? Draw and then get rid of the garbage! I swear I use all 3 modes in almost every round after all games are said and done.
Dig Through Time: A must-have for this deck. Gets what you need an helps line up better draws? Count me in. If you run blue you probably play this card.
Dissolve: Here's a thing most Sultai decks don't play much of. It deserves a 4-of spot in my deck as it helps line up draws AND counters everything. Too good to not be in my deck.
Negate: Again, in my meta there are tons of noncreature spells played so Negate is a must-have.
Disdainful Stroke: Situational counter that is amazing when I need it and dead weight when I dont which is the only reason it isn't a 2-of.
WINCONS
HIDEWhisperwood Elemental: An unexpected and solid wincon. While it does manifest your things, usually by the time you play this it doesn't matter what your opponent does as you can counter or kill anything headed in the elementals direction.
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver: Gets rid of opponents threats and uses them against them. Easily the most hated card in my deck and thus my favorite to bring out. Bring out as early as it is safe to do so and it will pretty much win you the game in a slow and grindy and torturous way.
Kiora, the Crashing Wave: Fog-on-a-stick with a kraken generator in the back? Of course it needs to be in here. Both a wincon and bait for Downfalls so the next two can come out and play.
Garruk, Apex Predator: AKA Billy Fking Mays here. Kill a planeswalker? Check. Makes tokens that are also deathtouchers? Awesome. Kills creature AND gains you life? I'm already sold. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! Gives those tokens trample and +5/+5. This card is better than fking Oxyclean. People say its dirty as hell but have you ever seen an opponents playmat look so clean?
Ugin, the Spirit Dragon: Bolt a creature or player? Boardwipe that exiles? Gain life and draw cards and bring that sh*t out- FO FREE? He's $35 for a reason. 'Nuff said.
SIDEBOARD
HIDEHere's my attempt at explaining what's in it and how I SB and when.
Disdainful Stroke: For when I need more counters, especially against big stuff.
Negate: For when I need more counters for countering counters.
Sultai Charm: For when you need that little extra kill or enchantment hate or draw.
Murderous Cut: For when I need more kill spells and less counters.
Drown in Sorrow: I really hate tokens. In flux with an extra Bile Blight.
Pharika's Cure: For aggro especially. This card has won me games. Reread that again before you laugh.
Feed the Clan: Aggro hate. Get a Tasigur out and play this T3 and watch your opponents develop a dull, lifeless faraway gaze in an instant.
Whisperwood Elemental: For when one isn't enough. Most people expect me to SB out the one-of I have. I've suprised plenty of people with siding in another. Also is often switched with a single Dissolve on MB to keep people guessing.
Erebos, God of the Dead: Specifically for GW devotion /manifest decks. Pulled this on one the other night after FNM was over and said, "Good luck with that lifegain," and he just about ragequit.
Tasigur, the Golden Fang: SB All-Star. Can be cast for chep, get your stuff back from the grave and trigger ferocious for that Feed the Clan. Amazing Card.
Silumgar, the Drifting Death: For when a hexproof blocker with flying and token hate is needed. Always a staple in my SB.
Torrent Elemental: For grindy matches where you just can't punch those last few points of damage in. Also very hard to get rid of. Only really a last resort.
Aggro: -1 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, -1 Garruk, Apex Predator, -1 Disdainful Stroke, -1 Thoughtsieze, -4 Satyr Wayfinder.
+1 Drown in Sorrow, +1Pharika's Cure, +2 Feed the Clan, +2 Tasigur, the Golden Fang, +1 Whisperwood Elemental, +1 Negate
Control/Mirrormatch: -1 Drown in Sorrow, -2 Bile Blight, -2 Crux of Fate, -2 Satyr Wayfinder
+1 Disdainful Stroke, +1 Negate, +2 Tasigur, the Golden Fang, +1 Whisperwood Elemtental, +1 Silumgar, the Drifting Death, +1 Sultai Charm
Midrange: Nearly the same as control matchup but take out the other 2 Satyr Wayfinder a Negate and add in Torrent Elemental and +2 Murderous Cut
This deck is fine-tuned for my LGS, so if you have any ideas or suggestions about anything let me know because I only want to make this thing even better. Hope you like the deck and didn't get get too salty reading my schtuff. Let me know if you have anything to add or suggest as any good deck is always a work in progress.
