Started off based on the work of Sky Mason and Niran. With thanks to LS for the loaner cards and numerous folks for advice. Record of 12-7 (plus an unplayed draw) in five weeks of Ready to Play's Thursday night Modern. Went 0-5 (0-3, 4x1-2) at its first IQ though.
Went 2-2 the first time out and was in all of the matches. Wasn't a huge fan of Champion of the Parish, and
Veteran Warleader
was just ok.
Did have a turn 3 kill on a perfect draw.
1) Cavern of Souls, Aether Vial
2)
Hada Freeblade
, Land,
Akoum Battlesinger
3) 2x
Akoum Battlesinger
swing for 27.
First round of changes were:
Add 2x Hardened Scales, 4x
Oran-Rief Survivalist
Subtract 1x Boros Charm, 2x Champion of the Parish, 1x
Kabira Evangel
, 1x
Veteran Warleader
, 1x Vines of Vastwood
Second time out was 3-0 with an unplayed draw in round 4 (2nd place on tie-breaks). For the second time in a row, wasn't a huge fan of
Veteran Warleader
, although it's trample came into play. Mirror Entity was responsible for two kills in some slower games, and Hardened Scales was strong. Adaptive Automaton was just ok, but not sure what to put in instead. Ondu Cleric from the side-board gave huge life gain in one game against tokens, and the Vines of Vastwood made saved the ally to make the kill in another game.
Second round of changes were:
Add: 1x Hardened Scales, 1x Mirror Entity, 1x Ondu Cleric.Subtract: 1x Adaptive Automaton, 1x
Lantern Scout
, 1x
Veteran Warleader
Next three tournaments went 2-2, 3-1 (3rd place), and 2-2. And was in every match except the one where they got off early Gifts Ungiven for Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite two games in a row, and a match against lands.
At its first IQ. Was crushed by Tron in round 1 - even a turn 2 suppression field didn't slow it down. Next four were all 1-2. Against Goblins in round 2. In game three I had him down 9-4, then 9-2, and 9-1, but couldn't draw an ally in the last two turns and he got his kill card. Against Twin in round 3. In game 3 I had him down to 8 and down to 7, but then he went off, again before I could get a kill. Round 4 was against Grixus control. Again was fairly close in game 3. Final round was infect. Game 2 was the close one there. All in all, I think it was pretty even, or just slightly under the final four decks, so if we replayed over and over I think I'd average out just under 2-3 against those five decks. Not good enough. First effort to speed it up is over at 4 Color CoCo-Vial Allies (61-56-3 match record).
