Seizan The Hand-Slayer

Commander / EDH* Mono-Black

Feyd-Rautha

Hello and welcome to my Seizan draw/discard EDH page! I always wanted to make an EDH deck that was focused on discard so I set out to make one. My first attempt used Tasigur as the general but it just never gelled; the problem I was having was that once you managed to have the whole table discard their hands the deck became useless, each discard card you drew became dead and there wasn't any purpose to the deck anymore. I figured that if I wanted people to discard I had to first fill their hands, and my own, with cards. My first thought was to make it into a blue/black deck with group draw cards...that is until I saw this guy in my binder :)

Seizan is an interesting card. He has a big enough body to be threatening but his group benefit is usually great enough that he escapes the ire of the table because people want those cards. I find he usually gets overlooked as a target for removal in lieu of something else more threatening. He really speeds the deck up is the main way the deck keeps your opponent's hands full of cards...that you can later make them discard. what ends up happening with this deck is that it really speeds games up a lot; for one because the whole table is burning through their decks at a good clip and for two because this deck actually puts out quite a bit of damage.

One thing to remember with Seizan is that since you control the draw effect you decide in which order things resolve. For instance if you have Noetic scales and Seizan you can have the scales resolve first, then Seizan, so they might end up bouncing all their creatures to their hand, then drawing a bunch of cards, and they probably have to discard some at end of turn. Stacking triggers on your own turn would work the opposite, you have seizan resolve first, then bounce creatures, more than likely allowing you to keep your creatures on the board. Learning how to stack triggers in this deck is a vital skill and one that every good magic player should eventually know how to do. While this deck can seem straightforward there are some really cool combos that you can pull off.
