I've been wanting to do a defender deck for awhile and then when they released Assault Formation I knew I could make a pretty solid one. Basic idea for this deck is to stall until I can get a lot of mana for either Colossus of Akros or for a burn spell or to have some big creatures to attack with Assault Formation. Any advice and +1's appreciated. Looking to make a fun casual deck that I can play with my friends. This deck will most likely be played in multiplayer, so I guess that's something to keep in mind
Start by using Axebane Guardian or Overgrown Battlement for some ramp. Having a couple out can let me do a lot of things quickly. Freed from the Real works extremely well for infinite combo with Axebane Guardian. If on overgrown batlement, I can only untap for as many island's that I have. If I don't have Axebane Guardian or Freed from the Real, I can use Drift of Phantasms to tutor for them.
Wall of Blossoms- helps with draw, especially sense I can run out of cards in my hand with so much ramp.
Tree of Redemption-Big ol' wall that can gain me some life if need be. If I have infinite mana, Assault Formation, and Tree of Redemption, I can get infinite life. It's rare but still there.
Fog Bank and Wall of Denial- Mostly in the deck for blocking. Fog Bank can be annoying for opponent to get around. And Wall of Denial is a big flying wall that will need a big creature to get through
Colossus of Akros- Turn 5 I can get a 20/20 indestructible creature with trample. Not too bad. Plus he's still a defender.
Cyclonic Rift-With all this mana, doing its overload cost is fairly easy to do. Depending on your opponent's deck, using it could be the end for them. Especially if I have Assault Formation, and then they have no blockers.
Banefire and Aurelia's Fury-Finishers with infinite mana or a lot of it. I like banefire because it can't be countered. Aurelia's Fury is handy because in mulitplayer, I can take out every player. Also tapping effect can be helpful.
