The commander Shalai, Voice of Plenty provides hexproof to you, your planeswalkers, and your creatures. To take advantage of this, the deck runs a lot of "scalers", or creatures whose value continues to grow even as the game continues. Most of these creatures are pretty frail as a downside, but Shalai gives them that extra protection to push them over the edge.

Since many of these "Scalers" are 4-6 drops usually, ramping early into Shalai and other support permanents is essential to start going off.
