Sidisi's Apostles

Commander / EDH

rguilbault

The goal of this deck is to live the dream and churn through the deck one Shadowborn Apostle at a time and between Grim Haruspex and Zulaport Cutthroat, end the game.

How to get there: by turn 3 you should fairly consistently have 6 Shadowborn Apostles on the battlefield. You want to try to wait until end of turn before you're next up: sacrifice the Apostles to go find Razaketh, the Foulblooded. Now untap, draw and hopefully you have a couple cheap creatures to cast, e.g. Shadowborn Apostles. To live the dream you have to fetch Grim Haruspex, Zulaport Cutthroat and Phyrexian Altar. Then you get to sacrifice Apostles to the Altar to cast Apostles and draw a card. You don't net any mana, you just replace the card and churn through until you can reach Yawgmoth's Will and figure out how to cast it. If you can pull it off, you will have a pretty good chance of drawing through most of the deck and each sacrifice will kindly dwindle opponents life totals with Zulaport Cutthroat in play. Sidisi, Undead Vizier guarantees you access to a tutor to help along the process is you're not living the dream T3 or 4.

Is the deck resilient? Hell no. Jester's Cap would wreck its house pretty hard and even Extract or Praetor's Grasp would make me sad. Nobody plays Infinite Obliteration or similar effects, so I can at least fear not that all my Shadowborn Apostles would be taken from me (thus allowing Contamination and Attrition to do things to mess with people before I fizzle out...I suppose 20+ Shadowborn Apostles rumbling someone also might add up over the course of the game.

The deck is meant to be kinda fun and maybe slightly/sorta competitive. To wit, I lived the dream the one time I played it...almost afraid to play it again.
