Nice little deck with Simic and Hydra combo. (+1/+1-Counters).Improvement welcome :)
(sorry for bad english, im swiss, ok?!)
So you're main goal is to get to the point on which you can swing in with very, very huge Kalonian Hydra.
Now here's how you play the deck:
Bred for the HuntIn combination with Cloudfin Raptor or Thassa, God of the Sea (unblockable) a very good card drawing effect. You wanna play it mid to late, after you have your big threats out.
Cloudfin RaptorBest blue 1 drop in Standard. Gets evolved by every 2 drop in the deck and its just hilarious when it survives till your
Kalonian Hydra gets in the red zone.
Garruk, Caller of BeastsWell... its Garruk, isn't it. His +1 is insane and lets you dig your deck for the big threats. The -3 ability is great for bringing even more pressure onto the battlefield.
Give / TakeWell.. either of these spells will impact your game. The card oio is very versatile. imagine getting the Give part onto your
Gyre Sage. Or following your attacking
Kalonian Hydra with a Take!
So Give is more like a pump for creatures to not dying to removal/damage, Take on the other side is kind of a "more win" situation. Can help finding the right cards though..
Gyre SageJust insane mana ramp in this deck. You should not even need an
Elvish Mystic.. Sage will get you bout 5 to 15 mana in 1 game.
HindervinesJust some defensive spell. Can be used against Reckoner though, but is mainly for an early block with a
Cloudfin Raptor or
Gyre Sage.
Kalonian HydraWell.. imagine bringing the card out on turn 4. Attacking turn 5, you probably can even
Give / Take Give it 3 more counters. Or Imagine
Give / Take Take all the 8 counters off it :) you'll never going to enjoy such a versatile creature in any other deck. Its obviously you're main win con since it can quickly grow into 10/10 and above on first attack.
Mistcutter HydraThis one is maybe the best Hydra ever printed. Not lying to you guys. It cant be played turn 1, but as soon as you have 3-5 mana, PLAY IT! dont wait until you can get it a 5/5 or even bigger. Thats not why it is in this deck. its for the early pressure. You got 4 mana turn 3? Play it. Get some early damage in. And then sit back and watch it grow since you definitly wanna follow it with a
Kalonian Hydra or a
Vorel of the Hull Clade activation.
And the best thing: Even it's pretty damn strong early on, it does not loose any value later in the game. Ever played a 10/10 uncounterable haste guy turn 6? :)
Mutant's PreyNot much to say here. Its removal, that's it. (and it's god damn cheap one!!)
Nykthos, Shrine to NyxAlso.. not much to say bout that. Even this isnt exactly a devination deck,
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx just defines standard atm.. Mana Ramp, nothing else.
Ordeal of ThassaMainly its (1)(U), draw 2. You also wanna cast it early on attached to a
Cloudfin Raptor. But most of the time its just a draw spell, cause you cast it on a creature with already 3 or more counters.
Temple of MysteryMana and Scry? Awesome. Helps you find your threats. Simple as that.
Thassa, God of the SeaActually its not a creature in this deck. You wanna play her for the scry and the unblockable. If she grows to a creature, great. if not, you dont care. She's just the most powerfull enchantment atm.
Urban EvolutionDraw 3 Cards? Wow. And also play another Temple of Mistery? Wow. Just a very powerfull card oio. Helps you later on if you're behind to find back into the game. you dont wanna play more than 2 though.
Vorel of the Hull CladeYou did not see that one coming, did you :)Let me show you how good this card is.
Turn 2 SageTurn 3 VorelTurn 4 Kalonian HydraTurn 5 Attack with Kalonian, goes to 8, activate Vorel. 16/16 Trample turn 5. And that's not even a rarely occurrence..
How about double the Sage's counters?
Zameck GuildmageThis guy is way better than you think. Since you have so much mana later on, this guy actually gives you the card draw you need! You need a guy to use your mana and since you don't have a god damn World Eater, this guy fits very well in the deck.
Now thats it for the main deck. now lets have a look at the sideboard, shall we.
Arbor ColossusBring it in against Stormbreath Dragon. Nothing more. Also, it helps if you going for green devotion with Nylea.
BioshiftEver Bioshifted your 8
Kalonian Hydra counters onto your
Gyre Sage? Pretty nice
Mistcutter Hydra to follow up i would say.
But thats not the only reason i put this card in the sideboard. If you gonna go for a bit more simic with your Master Biomancer and Prime Speaker Zegana, this is exactly the spell you need. Try it, its great!
Master BiomancerWell.. some more counters on my
Mistcutter Hydra? Why not. Also evolves Raptor and Sage. And its pretty damn good with
Prime Speaker Zegana.
So, you wanna bring these two in against controll match ups, cause controll decks will get a card advantage pretty quickly. So dont get behind, draw 3,4,6,10,20 cards easily, got it?
Nylea, God of the HuntTwo things. Trample on
Mistcutter Hydra and uses your insane amounts of mana in lategame. Board it in if you go for more green devotion.
Prime Speaker ZeganaWell, since it cost goddamn 6 with 2 of each g and u its quite slow. But with this deck, you dont wanna bring him in to early anyways. Till turn 4 you should have quite the stable board position, and so turn 6 Zegana is actually ok. Draws you a bunch of cards and swings for a lot of damage.
Rapid HybridizationRemoval, what else. Helps against the god damn
Master of Waves and
Stormbreath Dragon
Sapphire DrakeGet your goddamn Hydras into the air? No? Feels good. Play it against slower decks like mono black or even orzhov.
You can't handle an army of 10/10 flyers, can you?!
Well thats it folks.. nothing more to say. Playtest pls and give me a feedback.
Rate if you like, comment for improvement.
