Introduction
Hello everyone, i am happy you found this project List. My name is Vyrax and i fell in love with the idea of Sisay, Weatherlight Captain. My first take on her as a commander was a rather casual Superfriends list which over time turned more into a legendary Tribal/Hatebears list with slight leanings towards cEDH. With the spoiling of the Elk Jegantha, the Wellspring i fell all in Love with her again, but this time, she has a pet on her side which enabled all the possible combos from the command zone. The catch is: The best game winning Combos get ruled out by having the Elk in the Companion zone since Nicol Bolas, Dragongod for example has castin cost that dont fit with Jegantha, the Wellspring Companion restriction.
This List will slowly take you through all the options we have, if we want the Elk. Positives and negatives of running the elk in the companion zone and maybe some Match Results the moment XMage or other Online tools implement all the needed mechanics.
Gameplan
Have a smooth as possible sailing, some things in magic you cannot predict and completly plan out. While the game from a certain point is rather set in Stone with this deck, the first few turns are the tricky ones.
Your main goal is to get Jegantha, the Wellspring out on the Field together with Sisay, Weatherlight Captain, while Jegantha has no summoning sickness and can be used for Mana. If you achieved this goal, look at the combo list and chose the line that fits your playstyle and the board situation the best.
The main problem is to get to that board state.
The positives are, we have all the tools we need in our command/companion Zone. The bard part is, we need to keep the Elk alive for a turn cycle before we can use it to finish the game in one clean swoop.
The bad part is, we lose some of the best protection spells in the format because we run Jegantha. For example we cannot run the two big Free counter spells Force of Will and Force of Negation the good thing is, Commander2020 has us covered here and delivered a free counter Spell if our Commander is on the battlefield. Theoreitcally they printed 2 of those. Deflecting Swat and Fierce Guardianship.
With that in Mind, the game plan is rather simple, isnt it? Ramp to 5 Mana, get the Elk onto the field, protect the Elk for one turn cycle, cast Sisay and win the game with one of the Combos.
Combos
The main goal of each Combo are two things:
1. Get Enough Mana to Tutor the Combo
2. Play the Combo to win the game
With Sisay, Weatherlight Captain it is important to note that she is one of your main combo pieces, or rather your main Tutor for your combo pieces. She is an integral part of your strategy so nearly all combos that i will list, will include her.
Najeela Infinite Combat Steps Show
Needed Cards:
-
Najeela, the Blade-Blossom
-
Derevi, Empyrial Tactician
-
Samut, Voice of Dissent
Sisay and the Elk are on the Battlefield, the Elk is ready to use.
At the beginning Sisay is at 4 Power (2 base, 2 from Elk).
Tutor for Derevi, with the Derevi ETB untap the Elk. Activate Sisay with the Elk Mana to find Samut, use one White Mana from somewhere to untap the Elk. Use the Elk again to find Najeela.
Now you need a way to connect with one creature to untap the Elk with the Derevi Combat Trigger, then you tap the elk to use Najeela to get infintie combat steps.
Status Notes
_This will slowly become my idea for a cEDH viable Sisay, Weatherlight Captain list with the new Companion Jegantha, the Wellspring in the Comapnion Zone, which is a new Mechanic from the Set Ikoria.
If you look at this on the 11.04.2020, you are lucky, you are in the process of making the List so there will be quite a few Updates today ;)_
