As Jhoira restored the Weatherlight, a mushroom growing in its hold unexpectedly became her first crew member..

My playgroup came up with some house rules for Brawl using the suggestions by JLK from The Command Zone. On top of the house rules, for our first go around we wanted all decks to come in at right around $50 or less! So this is a budget build I did for a friend with Slimefoot, the Stowaway as the commander since Dominaria has some fun saproling cards.

Standard seems fun and all, a lot of people enjoy it, but it's not necessarily for me. I don't like the idea of building a deck (spending a fair bit of money on it) only for it to become obsolete. Brawl seemed like a really cool format, but with the standard rotation it would suck even more for your commander to get phased out. At least with traditional Standard it might just be a matter of replacing some of your cards, but if your commander is no longer legal, your whole deck practically falls apart... bummer. So, The Command Zone did an episode on Brawl and they discussed these points. JLK had the idea (don't know if it was his originally) to have your commander dictate what cards are it's standard cards or what we'll call the Command Set Identity. I have a link in the notes to the google doc if you are interested in seeing what those house rules look like.
This is your standard go wide token strategy in and . We want to create a lot of tokens with cards like Verdant Force, Tendershoot Dryad, and Overgrown Armasaur. We can use these as chump blockers, to overwhelm our opponents, or sac them to deal damage directly to each opponent if Slimefoot is out. Finally if we can get Vraska, Scheming Gorgon out with 10 loyalty counters hopefully we can trigger it and have enough tokens out to take out our opponents. Overcome can even give our tokens trample so it's possible we can take out all of our opponents in one swing.
You can check out our house rules here
We've included some non standard dual lands as legal because they are probably always going to be worse or the same as standard legal dual lands, but be a lot cheaper as well. If I missed any of them, just let me know and I add them.

Like I had mentioned for our first time trying Brawl we are giving everyone a $50 budget. We are being fairly lenient on this, so if I deck is $52.18 then whatever. We are basing deck prices off of Card Kingdom, TCG, or MTGGoldfish median prices. So we can definitely get this deck at around $50 using the Card Optimizer on TCG.

As always I love hearing your thoughts and suggestions.
