Sideboard

Maybeboard

This is my very first attempt at building a Commander/EDH deck, so any and all feedback is appreciated. Id like to first establish that Im trying to keep things semi-budget. If a card is in the maybeboard or the sideboard, I probably didnt feel like paying for the card or it didnt make the cut. This deck idea was a spinoff of Ben McDoles Sliver EDH deck. The basic concept was to take a Slivers premium deck and turn it into an EDH deck. Ive added some things that make it more up to date, made some slight modifications, and added my own flavor. Ive always thought Slivers were cool, so I figured why not build my first EDH deck around them? So I did.

First, lets discuss the options for a general. I pretty much have three choices: Sliver Queen, Sliver Overlord, and Sliver Legion. Sliver Queen is awesome. Everyone likes buffed tokens, but I ultimately decided against it because I feel the other two options are more viable for the format. This leaves Sliver Overlord and Sliver Legion.

The Legion is essentially a better Coat of Arms that is always available. The Overlord is a Tutor for Slivers and has the potential to mind control other players creatures. Both cards are good in their own right, and either can certainly be debated for. In fact I may even try each one and then decide which I like better as the General. It pretty much comes down to the availability of making everything huge, or getting out the specific slivers with utilities that I need depending on the situation. In summation, the General remains undecided, but I seem to be leaning toward the Overlord.

Next, being so heavily dependant on creatures, I foresee board wipe being a big issue for me, especially in the meta that I play in. I swear that some of the decks I play against have more Wrath of God, Day of Judgment, and Planar Cleansing than Plains but I digress.

In anticipation of board wipe spells Ive added a lot of graveyard shenanigans. Aphetto Dredging , Living Death, Patriarch's Bidding, Twilight's Call, and Living End would be appropriate responses to loosing all my Slivers. These cards also cave great chemistry with Tunnel Vision. Lets talk about this next.

Tunnel Vision is one of the main ideas in Mr. McDoles EDH concept that I really liked. Its versatile. I have the option of either targeting myself, or an opponent. If I target myself and place a pile of Slivers into the graveyard and follow it up with a Living Death or a Twilight's Call thats a big advantage. Alternatively I have the option of using Condemn on an opponents creature and using Tunnel vision on my opponent to force them to discard their deck. Both are pretty cool.

The next problem I see is graveyard control cards like Graffdiggers Cage or Tormod's Crypt as micahghenderson mentions below. This is certainly a concern. I think that I may be able to control some of this with cards like Aura Shards, Legacy Weapon , and Harmonic Sliver. However Im still concerned about this issue. Any additional thoughts would be very much appreciated.

The final Issue that I am seeing here is the land. With this being a five color deck, I feel it will be inevitably slow. I like the idea of having a lot of different colors available at the expense of it coming in tapped. Thats why I chose lands like Arcane Sanctum instead of shock lands. Any thoughts about this issue are also appreciated.

In summation the major issues are:

  1. Sliver Legion vs. Sliver Overlord as a General.
  2. Avoiding graveyard control and board wipe.
  3. Land coming in tapped vs. having access to more colors.
