Back in 2002 I was taught how to play Magic using a sliver deck. I've grown up playing similar decks where possible and I'll always enjoy doing so. That's why I put together this Modern deck, so that I had something to play in our club's Modern tournaments.
The deck has now gone through multiple iterations and I'm sure there will always be room for improvement, but it has come a long way since the first list. A lot of the important 4x are now complete (Cavern of Souls, Mutavault, Aether Vial) and I was lucky enough to have 4x Collected Company before the price went crazy. Therefore I'm reasonably happy with the current deck even if it will never be a world-beater, as long as it doesn't embarrass itself!!
I am always looking for any suggestions though, or card combinations I may not have considered. Keeping the CMC low is great for hits off Collected Company, even if it does leave the deck open to Fatal Push (21 creatures 2 CMC or less). But for the reason of Collected Company any suggestions of creatures >3 CMC would need a very strong case.
The mana-base was a lot more tricky to balance with the inclusion of the Sedge Sliver, but the addition of fetches (I know I'm missing Verdant Catacombs) means I can hit the important swamps. Any suggestions on how to re-adjust this would be great, but as with most people I'm limited by what cards I actually own! I know I'm susceptible to Blood Moon, Field of Ruin, Path to Exile etc, but I think I'm just going to have to live with that.
I'm still trying to get to a few larger events to see how the deck stands up to more established archetypes so I will see how it goes. It is competing for time with my other Enduring Ideal Modern deck so it doesn't always get played at the limited number of event I can get to. I'm not expecting to get a huge win %, but if I can surprise one or two people then I'll consider it a success.
