Snow White's Group of Friendly Woodland Critters

Commander / EDH Mono-Green

EricTheHoff

Welcome to The Forest! This mono-green deck features Selvala, Heart of the Wilds at the helm, and she helps to create ungodly amounts of mana to get some thicc bodies on the board.

The deck was built to be fairly straightforward; ramp, ramp, ramp, drop big boi. Selvala, Heart of the Wilds paired with Umbral Mantle allows you to create infinite colored mana and create a massive Selvala, so long as you have a creature with at least 5 power on the board (which isn't hard to do in this deck).

There is a lower land count than usual, as most of the ramp comes from the commander and other powerhouses like Karametra's Acolyte and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. There are also two dual-faced land cards hidden away in Turntimber Symbiosis   and Bala Ged Recovery  .

The commander offers a card-draw engine in herself, but with other spells such as Greater Good, Momentous Fall, Soul's Majesty, Sylvan Library, and Life's Legacy, you can draw out plenty of gas to keep using all that mana on.

The deck definitely struggles with creature removal, but plans to go over the top with bigger bodies. Artifacts and Enchantments will be no problem. The only board wipes present are Bane of Progress, Ezuri's Predation and Hurricane (which can kill players if you generate enough mana; be careful though, as it hits all players, not just opponents).

Some key cards include:

  • Umbral Mantle - Allows you to create infinite mana and a large commander.

  • Vivien, Monsters' Advocate - Her passive and +1 is nice, but her -2 is the real reason she's in here. It's fun to cast a Worldspine Wurm and get an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger for free.

  • Any untap effects to use on the commander, such as Wirewood Lodge, Quirion Ranger, or Scryb Ranger are very powerful and should be abused. Depending on your board state, you might start to generate more mana using Karametra's Acolyte than Selvala, Heart of the Wilds.

  • Spellbook - Running this over Thought Vessel because the 1 colorless mana from the Vessel is unnecessary; the unlimited hand-size is what you what. Plus, it's free!

  • Ulvenwald Oddity   - One of the best creature cards in the deck once it is transformed. It provides your board with +1/+1, Trample, and Haste, which is incredible on a single green creature.

  • Triumph of the Hordes - Can seem a little extra (or straight up salt-inducing, depending on who you ask), but sometimes you draw into way more of your small value critters than you need. Triumph helps ensure that you can still win, even with a smaller board state.
