Right, it's time to come back to magic in a huge way! I went to the SOI release and I really liked the way control was feeling, so I decided I wanted to get back with a deck that would make aggro-babies cry.
Granted, I haven't been an active player since probably late 2014, so I missed a lot. A lot of this deck is taken from advice of other players, and other decks I've seen on T/O, as well as some combing through magiccards.info(gotta throw that site a shout out, it's helped me a lot over the years.)
ANYWAY!! This deck is about surviving to the late game through counters and removal, before getting any of the 'walkers out. Any one of Jace, Unraveler of Secrets, Narset Transcendent or Sorin, Grim Nemesis could probably win the game by themselves. But this is Esper. Screw you if you think I'll limit myself, I'll tell you when I've got enough!
Anyway, Then we look at our 3, count'em, 3 creature cards. Dragonlord Ojutai Gives a free scry 3 draw 1, and has hexproof. He's vulnerable to getting Languished, but he's still really strong, and counters in hand can keep him up.
Sphinx of the Final Word is a little bit stronger, and can't be countered. The fact that he kills counterspells so hard only makes him that much better. Plus, 5 to the face each turn is magnificent.
So keeping myself alive until late game is the goal, with aggro decks it can be an issue if I lack crowd control/removal in hand, especially since I'll be wanting to keep a counterspell or two in hand once I drop a creature or one of my 'walkers.
Anyway, suggestions are welcome! I haven't got much of a collection anymore, and I plan on buying the deck pretty soon.
