Maybeboard

To be quite honest, I went into building this deck with the preconception that I was going to make four cards work as win cons: Avenger of Zendikar, Worm Harvest, Spider Spawning, and Izoni, Thousand-Eyed. I ended up sending myself on a mission to include as many creature cards as possible in the deck, and forgot that taking out Izoni (I already removed spider spawning) would easily allow greater flexibility. I will likely be constructing a different deck with is in mind in the future. That being said, here's what you need to know.

The deck has 3 main goals: Fill the graveyard, reanimate with Gyrus, set up a combat win. The main issue with the deck is not getting cards in the yard early enough; it is necessary to keep a hand with a discard outlet, otherwise you will be reliant on drawing one or waiting for the gradual mill to hit, neither of which are fast enough.

In this iteration of Gyrus, the two methods of winning are... 1. Flooding the board with tokens and recurring Craterhoof or Thunderfoot Baloth to buff the small dudes 2. Beating face with Multani (An important note is that Multani's ability is also incredibly handy for Worm Harvest fodder; being available at instant speed is just icing on the cake)

Creatures are separated into two categories: Graveyard and Hand (some have value in both). 1. Graveyard: These creatures are mostly dead cards in your hand and are clearly meant to be part of the vast majority of cards in your graveyard. Master of Cruelties is a great example of the kind of creature you don't want to hard cast; the only utility it has is as a one-time KO threat. 2. Hand: These creatures are not meant to be a part of the one-and-done package. Multani, for instance, has moderate utility as a reanimation target, but being resilient to removal and a significant boon to Worm Harvest, this is mostly something you cast.

A common misconception held among us Gyrus enthusiasts is that we should include more sac outlets to take advantage of the token that will be exiled anyway. Although this is an excellent idea, don't include sac outlets for the sake of sacrificing to get value so the token doesn't go to waste. Run outlets that have a desirable and worth wile effects.

Do not be afraid to resort to sacrificing Gyrus if you need to power him up.

Confusing Interactions: - Sundial of the Infinite: You can keep the token if you end the turn while still in combat, though you do lose your 2nd main phase. - Gyrus, Corpse Waker: Gyrus does not trigger "when this creature attacks" effects. Additionally, the tokens are not forced to attack the same player as Gyrus. - Token Doublers: If you attack with Gyrus, the token is copied, is also tapped and attacking, and will also be exiled at end of combat (each token can choose where to attack individually).

Synergies: - Token doubler + Avenger/Izoni: Since Gyrus makes tokens of every creature it reanimates, Avenger will be copied, but so will both Avenger's tokens (5 lands=20 plants). Similarly, if you reanimate Izoni with a token doubler and there are 13 creatures in the graveyard, you will have a board of 52 bugs (you will have to sac one of the Izonis due to the legend rule however). - Token doubler + Phyrexian Delver + Avenger/Izoni + Craterhoof: Attacking with Gyrus and targeting Delver with a token doubler on the field will put two on the field, allowing you to reanimate Craterhoof and Avenger/Izoni, which will likely result in a win. - Master of Cruelties: Reanimating the Master already tapped and attacking bypasses its requirement to attack alone. Master hits for first strike damage, bringing the opponent to 1, and then Gyrus hits for normal damage, killing them. Against a player with no blockers this is an insta-kill.
