You know, I freaking love the new
Squee
. Something about Squee has always made me happy. It also helps that he lets me play storm without pissing off the table. Interested? Here Let me show you.
One of the big problems with the average storm deck is that you need to go through a complex chain of events in order to potentially, maybe, win the game. Not with our boy Squee! It takes a bit of setup, but that's why it's so much fun. Still, our big Combo requires 3 main pieces.
Edit:
Desecrated Tomb
is fantastic as a second
Genesis Chamber
which is one of the best cards in our deck. So, it's a pretty easy include as another payoff card.
Think of this as your ramp. we need consistent decrease in cost for Squee or else there is no way we're getting him out. Personally I like things such as
Goblin Warchief
,
Ruby Medallion
,
Honor-Worn Shaku
, and the ever awesome
Mana Echoes
. You even start seeing overlap with cards like
Hazoret's Monument
which is almost always a great draw for us. Decreasing the cost of Squee and bringing us a loot effect can help us win games pretty quickly.
Now, the bread and butter of this deck. You can't do a damn thing if you can't get Squee back into the graveyard. Also, most of the great sac. engines pull double duty in our deck like creating red mana to help us toss Squee back onto the battlefield. cards like
Skirk Prospector
and
Thermopod
are always good for making some mana but the best will always be
Phyrexian Altar
. There are of course, other outlets to sac to.
Ashnod's Altar
is a clasic but doesn't give much affect on its' own.
Skullclamp
is super handy, but takes some of that much needed mana away so it won't be used for winning most of the time.
Blasting Station
doubles as a win-con
Edit: I added in
Dark-Dweller Oracle
as well. It's pretty great for getting that little extra card draw in the early game.
In most cases, the best way to win the game, will be all at once. No, Grindy victories for us a la
Meren of Clan Nel Toth
. See, our biggest problem is that Squee is a pain in the ass to cast. With that double red devotion, he can become nigh impossible to recast without using our lands. So, we have two routes to infinite casts with him.
There is no one definitive route to infinite Squees which makes it easier to assemble some form of infinite casts. A great example of said combo is
Goblin Warchief
+
Phyrexian Altar
+
Genesis Chamber
. Goblin Warchief helps power out Squee a little faster, Phyrexian altar sacs Squee and the Myr token generated by Genesis chamber, and voila! Infinite Squees! From there, pair this up with one of the payoffs mentioned above and you have yourself a guaranteed victory. Sure, it's super fragile but there is a bunch of substitutions in the deck so if someone resets the board, then you have options.
As a backup option we have
Mana Geyser
+
Reiterate
which is going to get you infinite red mana. Still, unless you have
Gemstone Array
on the field you aren't keeping that so finish up quickly or hold onto the combo until you can either A) Loot to victory or B) win on the spot. Don't waste time or resources on intimidating people with your terrifying waste of mana.
Edit: I removed
Gemstone Array
for being too slow, durdly and just being useless without having infinite mana and nothing to spend it on. Lo and behold, we are a mana hungry deck with no end of ways to use this mana. So it's gone
So in this section we go over some sweet interaction in the deck. The little quality of life items and combos that exist outside of the usual combo.
Firstly,
Mycosynth Lattice
is a beast in this deck. Turning all of the generic mana gained from items such as
Honor-Worn Shaku
and
Ashnod's Altar
into red mana. We can also
Vandalblast
the board and watch people cede the match.
A new one just got added to the game in
Experimental Frenzy
. It's so good here since it allows us to quickly crawl through our deck. Don't like what's on top? Fine, use one of our many routes to loot the top card off and keep going. Maybe, you just draw some cards and get a brace ready in hand to pop your frenzy and go to town. There's a lot of good value here.
Speaking of going off,
Runaway Steam-Kin
is super useful as well. Essentially, you cast
Squee, the Immortal
3 times, you can cast him once for free, which will either dig you deeper or get you more mana. It just keeps you moving through your deck.
All in all, this is probably my new favorite deck. I've always been a fan of red decks and this one takes the cake. Wheels, Looting, Sacrifice engines, Goblins, and storm. It's not super competitive but it will easily take out an unprepared group. So go out into the world and show them the power of Squee!
