Standard - Golgari Roots

Standard Attrition BRG (Jund) Combo Mill

ZEBR4

Sideboard

The Deck:

This is a combo/value deck that focuses on filling our graveyard with creatures to set up as many Insidious Roots triggers as possible to kill on the next turn or sometimes kill on the spot with Voldaren Thrill Seeker and Agatha's Soul Cauldron. The combo is surprisingly quick and usually wins on turn 4 or 5 when assembled with Insidious Roots to make plants that grow and tap for mana, Tyvar to start the recursion train while giving all the tokens haste for immediate mana, and Snarling Gorehound to churn through our library until our opponent is dead-on-board the next turn. Overlord of the Balemurk serves as both an early enabler for the strategy as well as a huge threat that we can hard cast as early as turn 3, providing a nice midrange plan to win even if we don't draw our combo.

Beating Aggro:

Aggro can be rough for us in game one, but our plan here is to survive until the midgame where we can start putting up crazy ammounts of large blockers and turn the corner. Luckily, we just got some cheap synergistic removal in Quag Feast as well as turn 1 ramp with Molt Tender to accelerate our plan. We're also more than happy to block and trade off wherever possible since we know that we'll end up in a commanding position eventually. The sideboard is Cut Downs to slow them down and Obstinate Baloths to help stabilize while also randomly wrecking discard strategies.

Beating Midrange:

This matchup can be pretty easy depending on how opposing interaction lines up. If they have enough mainboard ways to destroy/counter/discard our Insidious Roots, then the combo may not ever come together depending on their clock. But all we have to do to win is stick a Roots or Defiled Crypt for one or two turns and its usually game over from there. The sideboard is Duress and Cruelclaw's Heist since our opponents will be siding in ways to deal with our combo - so we just need to protect it. Insidious Fungus and Keen-Eyed Curator can come in as well if more specific interaction for their strategy is needed.

Beating Control:

This will be our hardest matchup since they will have plenty of ways to break up our combo and sweep our board. We are usually ok with them sweeping us once, but rebuilding after a second is rough and Temporary Lockdown is a messed up card against us. But the sideboard lets us throw in Insidious Fungus for the Lockdowns and Duress + Heist to skirt board wipes long enough to steal some matches.
