You are lost in the woods Show

Tired of chasing the squirrel that ran off with the map, an adventurer makes their way back to the path they were on through the woods. Coming to a fork in the path, they notice an old hermit sitting in the grass with his back up against a tree, dozing in the shade. With a gentle shake of his shoulder the adventurer wakes him from his sleep, and asks him if he knows which way they should go to get out of these woods.

The hermit smiles happily, and says he'll share a tale in exchange for a bite to eat and a splash of water for his parched throat. A small price to pay, the adventurer joins the hermit in the shade for a lunch for two before the hermit tells his tale.

"Two ways you can take from here. Most think they already know which they want to choose. They tell themselves they want the path to the north there, a few short hours and then wheat fields as far as you can see leading to the next town, and your next adventure I'm sure. But I'll say to you what I say to them, how do you know which path to choose if you don't know all the choices? Maybe your next adventure is closer than you think. It's lucky you caught me napping here, I know these woods well. There used to be an amazing city down t'other road there. Before my time mind you, even when I was a small lad it had already sunk into the swamp and all the people had moved away. I've never been inside myself, but one day as a young lad playing in the forest near the walls, I noticed something shiny in the muck and dug out an old spoon. Taking it home and cleaning it up, it turned out to be a real silver spoon, with fancy carvings all up and down the handle. I've kept it close to me ever since, as a good luck charm. Here. Here! Have a look." He pulls a small spoon hanging from a chain out of his robes. Admiring the fine metal work that went into creating this spoon, the adventurer can tell this would have fetched quite a price if the old man had ever traded it in.

"It always made me wonder, once I was too old to be wondering about such things, what else could be found in the muck in the sunken districts of that city. Ah well, enough of my ramblings though. I thank you for lunch and the company, but I imagine you're in a hurry to get to that town you were looking for." Seeing the look in the adventurers eye, the hermit knows they've taken his bait.

The adventurer thanks him for the directions, and says they have no pressing need in the town that would prevent them from poking around this old abandoned city the hermit mentioned. As the hermit watches them walk down the road towards the ruined city, he sits back down and pulls out a crust of bread to nibble on. Breaking off a piece and giving it to a rat hiding in the shadows of the grass, the Hermit tells him "Tell the King he has another visitor."

Resting his back up against the tree, the Hermit closes his eyes to take a light rest. Shortly, he's awoken up by a gentle tugging on his ear. A squirrel has come to let him know they've stolen another travelers map, and they are on their way up the road. The Hermit scratches the squirrels ears and closes his eyes again. The travellers will wake him when they get here, they always do. How else would they get directions? He chuckles to himself and let's the warm day take him back to sleep, thinking about how many people assume just because the people have left the city that means it's abandoned. Well, they all learn soon enough just how many subjects the King has in his kingdom, and how hungry they are.

Rat Deck

Early game this deck will look to get cheap creatures out while also disrupting the opponents hand. Once you have a couple rats out and have made your opponent discard some cards, use the sacrifice cards to turn creature losses into card draw for you instead Use the draw and the King's ability to find as many rats as you can. Use the removal to help your rats get through, use the cheap resurrect abilities and ninjitsu to get multiple uses of your ETB creatures while you try to flood the field with rats.

The effect the King has on your opponents becomes obvious very quickly. The first game most get caught off guard by the quickness of the rats, and any game you play after that you find them playing much more defensive than usual. They choose to block your deathtouch rats early rather than let those two early poison counters through. Even though they could attack and get damage on you, they second guess themselves while glaring at the King. As you resurrect the rats over and over, they see their hand dwindle as they are forced to discard and use more cards to fight the rats. Soon after, because they tried to play defensive, they are sitting in a dark corner with no cards in hand while the rats are pouring in the wide open door.
