Sundial Exile Control

Modern Control WU (Azorius)

Tempic

Control style deck using the ability of the Sundial of the Infinite. First i'll explain the cards a bit before going in to detail how it all works.

Artifacts

  • Sundial of the Infinite: The card that inspired this deck idea (and probably many others). Using our sundial we can abuse the temporary exile effects of Flickerwisp, Cloudshift or Glimmerpoint Stag and make them permanent. Or we can create tokens that would normally only stay until the end of combat/turn and keep them under our possesion indefinitely. More on how to do this later on.
  • Mimic Vat: Can create an endless supply of tokens, which together with the Sundial of the Infinite can stay in our possesion.

    Creatures

  • Flickerwisp: a 3/1 flyer that can exile any permanent forever with the help of Sundial of the Infinite.
  • Frost Titan: A 6/6 that can help you lock down the board. Attack and tap down a creature, then second mainphase Cloudshift it and tap down another creature, When venser is out on the field it's even possible to go for number 3.
  • Geist of Saint Traft: 2/2 hexproof that produces 4/4 flying tokens.
  • Glimmerpoint Stag: 3/3 vigilance, works in the same way as Flickerwisp.
  • Mulldrifter: Another flyer that gives us 2 cards when it enters the battlefield. Again this card synergizes with our Sundial of the Infinite to cast it for it's evoke cost and still keep the creatute.
  • Wall of Denial: Playing an 0/8 flying creature that also has hexproof and watching the look on your opponents face... priceless. This creature will buy us a few turn to get set up properly.

  • Instants & Sorceries

  • Cloudshift: Can be used for creature protection or for re-using the effects of Glimmerpoint Stag or Flickerwisp. Another fun use is to blink a Dentention Sphere and trap all other copies of the target permanent that we're played since the first entry of the sphere.
  • Turn to Mist: instant speed exile effect.
  • Detention Sphere: Removal.

    Planeswalkers

    Venser, the Sojourner
  • +2: Bounce your own permanents to re-use their effects.
  • -1: All creatures become unblockable.
  • -8: Exile a target permanent everytime you cast a spell. that pretty much is game over.

    Deck Combo's

  • Flickerwisp / Glimmerpoint Stag / Turn to Mist + Sundial of the Infinite: All the cards mentioned exile a target permanent until the end of turn. However using Sundial of the Infinite in the beginning of our end step we can make this exile permanent by throwing the activation of sundail on the stack on top of the return from exile trigger. Sundial will resolve first and thereby removing/exiling all the remaining triggers on the stack. meaning it will never return. Keep in mind that this has to occur IN RESPONSE of the return trigger else it will just come back on your opponents next end step.

  • Mimic Vat + Sundial of the Infinite: Both Mimic Vat and Nacatl War-Pride will procude tokens that remain until the end of the turn. However we can prevent the tokens from being exiled at the end step by responding to the exile trigger in the end step with sundail of the inifnite, causing the triggers on the stack to be exiled themselves and never happening.

  • Frost Titan + any temporary exile effect: Frost Titan can lock down an enitre army with the help of a few cards such as Venser, the Sojourner, Turn to Mist, Cloudshift etc... attack on combat phase and exile it until the end of turn using any of the other effects.
