"Swing to win, 'till you die, 'till the light dies in your eyes

Swing to win, take it all, just keep fighting till you fall"

This began as my first ever mtg-deck, formerly Heroic Strings [Ravnica-Theros] . It was my apple of the eye. A Heroic-deck utilizing Hidden Strings to maximize triggers that I started building in february 2014.

The deck took an absolutely HUUUUGE punch in the gut when Ravnica rotated and it lost Hidden Strings and Ethereal Armor.

The idea is simple, get creatures out and defend them while they keep on growing with the triggers.

  • Almost every move you make either let's you draw a card or scry (or even both!) and everything is dirt cheap to cast.
  • Gods Willing & Ajani's Presence takes cares of most problems. Keeping things like Ephemeral Shields or Stubborn Denial/Swan Song in the sideboard is great if you're up against heavy removal or board wipes.
  • Triton Tactics is just amazing against aggro and shuts down red aggro hard.
  • Treasure Cruise or Dig Through Time gets you more cards, your graveyard should almost always contain enough fuel for them. Treasure Cruise is the preferred one because it can go down to 1 in cost, which is more important than you could think.
  • Use either Aqueous Form or Stratus Walk for evasion, depending on matchups. Or try to go wide with Monastery Mentor while you clear a path with Dromoka's Command.
  • Favored Hoplite is a great 1-drop. It's fat and its heroic prevents damage in addition to giving it a counter, effectively making every noncreature spell you have protection for it. It's also godlike against lifelink (which is very common atm due to Whip of Erebos/Seeker of the Way) and prevents deathtouch, first strike and double strike. Giving the Favored Hoplite double strike through cards like Phalanx Formation or Battle Mastery is a very valid option since it makes it a vicious master of trading, because it's becomes temporarily "immortal" and trades way up.
  • Dromoka's Command, you can't say enough good things about this card. Together with Favored Hoplite it can easily do 2-for-1s, 3-for-1s or even 4-for-1s all day long while also giving the Favored Hoplite 1-2 counters! It's just absolutely amazing value in the Heroic-archetype and it's completely worth it to splash green only for this single beauty.
  • Island in the sideboard is swapped with the Forest when up against heavy control. Take out Dromoka's Command and put in those counterspells and defense.

Updates Add

Local meta shifted to more aggro, so I've swapped Stratus Walk and Swan Song for Aqueous Form and Triton Tactics in the sideboard.

If more cheap is burn being thrown around here I probably won't hesitate to pull out the 2 Monastery Mentors for 2 Lagonna-Band Trailblazers. If I do that, I'll also lower the land count to 20 by taking out 1 of each fetch. They can be replaced by anything, I'll probably mainboard 2 Aqueous Form or 2 Stratus Walk in their place!
