My friends and I decided to make EDH decks recently for the first time. Of course I chose to run ninjas since it was my favorite deck and it allowed me to use the Planechase ninjas. It has evolved quite a bit over the last few weeks. I started with Wrexial, the Risen Deep, then moved to Vela, the Nightclad as commander, but I ended up hardly ever playing them. Then I discovered the perfect general for this deck which requires quite a bit of card draw to work: Sygg, River Cutthroat.

The deck uses bounce, destroy, and a bit of discard to control the opponent(s) and a lot of scry and card draw to keep up the pressure. I realize there are a few cards that may be better for this deck (Baleful Strix), but I actually own all of these cards and I like where it is sitting at the moment.

Note: I have taken out quite a bit of my counter spells already, but may remove it completely. I tap out too much for it to be useful.

Updates Add

After about a year of playing this deck and building several EDH decks since, I have made a lot of changes that I think make this more competitive. I have acquired a couple more expensive cards such as the all-star Baleful Strix and the ultimate ninja protector Spellskite. I don't play any vanilla tutors; instead, I run all three 2-cmc transmute spells which can search for a wide range of powerful cards. The two I just mentioned are of course options, as well as Black Sun's Zenith, Profane Command, Exsanguinate, Cyclonic Rift, and the very new addition of Runechanter's Pike. I have only gotten to play the pike once so far, but it has already done some great work. It makes my little ninjas into much better blockers, turns little unblockables into enormous beaters, and here's the best part: with first strike, I can have my unblocked attacker deal damage and THEN pull a surprise ninjutsu to hit twice as hard. I think this deck is pretty much streamlined at this point, I can't think of any changes I would want to make.
