Welcome to my Derevi, Empyrial Tactician deck

This Deck promotes the spirit of EDH! Through diplomacy and by pumping up creatures, making you either state enemy number one or friendly at the table!

Prophet of Kruphix is banned and Seedborn Muse isn't a viable replacement, because it will get it's ass kicked, while not giving me creatures in return.

Q: When to play this deck?

If you like to see your creatures go whoop whoop and the setup at your table isn't a cutthroat tier 1 but rather a tier 2 or 3 game.

Q: Why did I pick Derevi and not another commander?

This is my first commander deck and it has seen alot of major changes. It started off as a Jenara, Asura of War deck, but my playgroup suddenly had Krenko and Azami decks laying on the table. I then decided to pick a strong commander since I wanted to keep playing bant with the focus still on +1/+1 counters or tokens so I ended up playing Derevi.

Q: What does this deck do?

It puts creatures into play that get boosted through various ways, by filtering your deck with cards like Captain Sisay and tutor cards, putting counters on creatures Master Biomancer, Cathars' Crusade or finish your opponents of with a well timed Craterhoof Behemoth, Overrun or Triumph of the Hordes. Use your weenies to make use of Derevi's triggered ability and play spells.

Nice deck interactions:

Derevi, Empyrial Tactician + Thraben Doomsayer = Free tokens

Derevi, Empyrial Tactician + Willbreaker = take all the creatures

Brago, King Eternal + Cathars' Crusade = Heavy hitting creatures. When you do this with token generators like Avenger of Zendikar it's going to make you a force to be reckoned with.

Pros & Cons of this deck

Pros:

  • Gets wild really fast

  • Fairly consistent

  • Is a lot of fun to play with

  • If even your 1/1's are a threat people will have to waste their removal

Cons:

  • Hardly any control i.e Counterspell which one would expect from a derevi deck.

  • Recursion might be a problem from time to time

  • Doesn't ramp as fast as it could due to the lack of basic lands and or 1 drop mana generators

Of course tips are always welcome :). I am known in my playgroup to love wombo combos but I decided to not do any of that in this deck so I'd rather not make this deck another wombo combo deck (I've got my Oona, Queen of the fae for that sole reason. so although Archangel of Thune + Spike Feeder are on the list, I probably won't add them any time soon.

Note to my lazy self...

I am planning to swap these cards:

Swords to Plowshares > Trostani, Selesnya's Voice

Blighted Woodland > Gaea's Cradle

Island > Tropical Island

Plains > Savannah

Island > Tundra
