The Royal Assassin was the main driving force behind the building of this deck as I took to the ability. I ran across Thornbite Staff and realized that if I could tap down the opponent's creatures, I could clear the board. Also, if I attached the staff to a deathtouch creature, I could control the board without needing to tap down creatures, though I would need to spend some mana.

Thus, this deck is designed as a casual deck with a hope that I can get it into Modern (using the new Fathom Feeder for some card draw and more UB costed deathtouch that could actually destroy Etched Champion as well). It is designed to control the kitchen tabletop as the group I play with have a lot of token strategies (and a Merfolk player as well). There isn't a lot of degenerate non-creature combos going on, so I expect this to perform relatively well in that environment.

This is essentially a 3-card combo deck via Royal Assassin, Thornbite Staff, and Cryptic Command, though other combos exist as well. That being said, I expect that I can stall the board with deathtouch walls in Vampire Nighthawk and Tidehollow Strix (hoping to get Baleful Strix for extra card draw) and some flash hand disruption/card draw in Vendilion Clique. I can protect the combo with counters (Negate, Spell Pierce, and Memory Lapse), and I can draw into the combo with Brainstorm and Ponder.

To make this Modern legal, I expect to throw in some Fathom Feeder and some cheap counters. I would expect this to perform well against creature-based strategies like Abzan or Zoo and I'm hoping the additional counters would help against the combo decks, but we shall see.
