Tasigur, the Golden Fang

Tasigur, the Golden Fang EDH version 3.0

"Part of the beauty of me is that I am very rich."

Deck Intro

This is a combo-control deck. Essentially the focus of this deck is to ramp into a huge X spell, or get infinite mana and win on the spot. This is a creatureless deck that aims to delay the game with taxing effects on players who have creatures, hopefully locking down combat with prison or Maze of Ith effects until we can find our combo.

Control the board while ramping into big (sometimes infinite) X spells Villainous Wealth, Exsanguinate, Torment of Hailfire, Mind Grind.

We can help these X spells steal the game with spell copy effects Mirari, Mirrorpool

My first ever EDH general was The Mimeoplasm, which still has its janky charms but tends to paint a pretty big target on my head as soon as a good creature entered my graveyard. Damia, Sage of Stone was my 2nd BUG general and introduced more focus on ramp and control and almost always ended with an infinite mana combo into Exsanguinate which was fun the first couple of times but got boring because it played pretty linearly into a devastating combo that left everyone else pretty disappointed.

When Villainous Wealth was released, I have been keen on building a deck that can make the most out of it.

My first few builds with Tasigur were control-reanimator shells with the Cabal/Urborg/Temple land combo and spending it on Villainous Wealth or Exsanguinate. In later builds, I added Torment of Hailfire but the deck essentially stayed the same. It was chock full of staple BUG value creatures, punishing praetors and tons of removal and counterspells. People became afraid of me reanimating praetors so I would get beaten down pretty fast before I could ultimately pull off the land combo. In the end, the deck became a bit unfocused -- it was a mashup of lands-matter, control, reanimator, and goodstuff.

This latest build was an inspired attempt to build a creature-less deck centered around getting key spells back with Holistic Wisdom. I ended up deciding to run a few value creatures to either help me tutor for my combo pieces, recur my graveyard, and have a couple of deathtouch blockers to dissuade attacks. Since this is nearly creature-less, I've also introduced a handful of creature tax enchantments that will make people unable or unwilling to attack me. This should help give us the time to set up our big mana combos.

Infinite mana via:

  1. Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth +
  2. Turnabout + Demonic Tutor +

How it works -- Demonic Tutor for Seasons Past, cast Turnabout and tap out all lands to float in response. Lands untap, cast Seasons Past for Turnabout and Tutor. is hanging and we repeat the process for infinite mana.
With infinite mana, we can draw our entire deck with Tasigur, then proceed to nuke all opponents' libraries with Reality Shift. If they have no creatures out, Beast Within first, then Reality Shift. They lose on their next draw step.
If either of those spells aren't available for some reason, we've always got our X spells as backups.

Non-infinite (but still a lot of) mana via:

Cabal Coffers + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth + Thespian's Stage + Deserted Temple + a bunch of lands.
Turnabout is also useful here.

Even this combo should be enough for a blowout. Even Urborg/Cabal/Temple and a handful of lands can be a pretty big hit.

Primer and card choices coming as soon as I've played this new version a few times and have time to tune it a bit more.
