Tazri, Blinkstorming the Undercity

Commander / EDH Exile Venture Into the Dungeon

Deck Primer:

  1. Deck Strategy: This deck revolves around the interaction between almost all of the Initiative cards ever printed and various blink effects plus 11 Venture into the Dungeon cards to generate value and control the battlefield. By repeatedly blinking your creatures, you can trigger their enter-the-battlefield abilities, protect them from removal, and "storm" through the Undercity repeatedly, quite often until you're able to infinitely venture through it or, more likely, other dungeons. The deck combines blink effects, powerful creatures with impactful abilities, and a range of support cards to create a synergistic and versatile gameplay experience.

  2. Key Cards: Hoarding Broodlord has the best etb in the deck, possibly in the game. He gets whatever piece(s) you may need to solve the puzzle. Felidar Guardian, Restoration Angel, Ghostly Flicker , card:illustrationist's strategem etc.: These cards provide additional blink effects that can be used to trigger enter-the-battlefield abilities, protect your creatures, or disrupt opponents' plans. Felidar Guardian, Restoration Angel go infinite with Radiant Solar. Acererak the Archlich : is a cheap Venturing creature that goes infinite with Aluren. Just never venture into the Tomb of Annihilation. Brago, King Eternal : Another powerful blink-focused creature. Brago can flicker not only your creatures but also your artifacts, enchantments and planeswalkers, providing additional value and disruption.

  3. Deck Synergies: Enter-the-Battlefield Abilities: The deck includes numerous creatures with powerful enter-the-battlefield abilities. By repeatedly blinking these creatures, you can trigger their abilities multiple times, generating value, card advantage, or disrupting your opponents. Protection and Disruption: Blink effects not only protect your creatures from removal spells and board wipes but also allow rebuys of their etb effects. Card Advantage: The deck utilizes blink effects to generate card advantage. By repeatedly blinking creatures and taking the Initiative and Venturing through the Dungeon, you can maintain a steady flow of resources throughout the game.

  4. Playstyle Tips: Prioritize getting through the Undercity as soon as possible. The Throne of the Dead Three is crazy powerful. I always try to scry away noncreatures via The Lost Well level to maximize my chances to hit a good creature on the final level. This will maximize your value and allow you to control the board effectively.

Be mindful of your opponents' removal spells and plan your blink effects accordingly. Use them to protect your key creatures or disrupt your opponents' strategies.

Use blink effects to have your creatures re-enter the battlefield on your opponent's end step to maximize the value you gain from creatures reentering the battlefield and reclaim the Initiative to venture into the Undercity on your upkeep.

Keep an eye on your mana curve and plan your turns accordingly. Consider leaving mana open to cast blink effects or react to your opponents' plays.

Be patient and wait for the right moment to unleash your powerful combo turns. Timing is key in executing your strategy effectively.

Built this deck around June 2023. In a recent game, I thought I was dead in the water. Rob had dropped Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines, which kills my entire deck's gameplan. I untapped and attacked with Caves of Chaos Adventurer which exiled and let me cast for free: The Eternal Wanderer. Possibly the only answer to Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines in the whole deck. I forced Rob to sacrifice Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines and each opponent was sitting with a 1/1 token or dork. I soon went off, that same turn I think, and stormed through the dungeons to take another win with this explosive, albeit complicated deck.

Overall, this Kyodai, Blinkstorming the Initiative into the Undercity deck focuses on leveraging blink effects to generate value by blinkstorming dungeons, especially the Undercity. With careful timing, effective card selection, and strategic gameplay, you can enjoy this versatile and formidable commander deck.
