Temur Death's Shadow

Modern* Aggro Competitive Midrange

Daalot

Sideboard

I have been playing GDS (in paper) for nearly a year. I love the deck. The power level is undeniable. Each game presents new challenging lines to find. I've probably learned more about playing correct and competitive Magic with this deck than any other. There are certain things I dislike about the deck, and the unbans only exasperated the issue. With the advent of BBE and JTMS, Death's Shadow's decks have to go slimmer and faster.

GDS suffers with turns spent cantriping, filling the graveyard, and playing Delve creatures which are very vulnerable to a certain plainswalker. The lack of threat density also works poorly with TBR, a card I a grow more and more impressed with. I feel that the Green based shell offers a greater density of threats, a lower curve, and less time spent doing "nothing". The ability to consistently kill slightly (about half a turn in my testing) more quickly than GDS is a premium at an all time high.

I have put together a working 4 color list, which I am currently finding great success with in testing. I welcome all CONSTRUCTIVE feedback, positive or otherwise.

On card choice: One of the best weapon in GDS's arsenal is Snappy. Most lists don't include this card, but I think it's so good it deserves two slots in the 75 (1/1). Probably the best blue card in modern, its our best weapon pre-board in any midrange or mirror situation. Rebuying removal or a Traverse will always effect the board. People also seem to have forgotten about Bolt-Snap-Bolt. It still works, especially when you're swinging for huge chunks with TBR. Traverse also has huge synergy with Snap, as then can both find one another.

Creeping Tar Pit can be found with Traverse to get past blockers like Lingering Souls to hit targets like JTMS, as well as wreck havoc in the DS mirror.

The 2/2 bolt/push split is something I've carried over from GDS. Fatal push is amazing. Its one of the best cards in the format. It also doesn't interact with Karn, Lava Spike, and Gurmag Angler. Bolt kills birds and humans equally well, and is vastly superior in many matchups. I'm willing to cut my percentage versus Goyf for a better clock and a lower chance of holding a dead card.
