My friends and I had a deck building competition. We had to make a commander deck that cost less than $20.

But that $20 included tax and shipping and handling, and we had to buy all of the cards online. The only thing we didn’t have to buy were basic lands. Oh, and we decided to stay away from wastes as they felt a bit counter to the spirit of the competition.

I was able to get this deck down to $19.97, but definitely had to cut out some of the cards I wanted. The most expensive card at the time of purchase was Walking Atlas at 94 cents. It was a lot of fun working with such tight limitations and I highly recommend trying it yourself.
