This deck was originally meant to pick up the scraps of a combo deck from Standard 2014, which was similar to Pandoras Box Of Combos, using Jeskai Ascendancy to make Elite Arcanist more relevant. Using Retraction Coil and a 0-cost artifact while Jeskai Ascendancy is on the board enables you to pump all your creatures infinitely. Combine that with a Young Pyromancer and... well, that's for another deck :)
Anyway, while looking at Jeskai Ascendancy, I came across Blistercoil Weird, which is just too awesome to not make a deck around. Basically, combining Blistercoil Weird + Paradise Mantle
enables you to rip through your deck with Cantrips like nobody's business. Then land a Grapeshot or find a way to get him through to the opponent, and you're in business.
Let's take a look at the cards:
Blistercoil Weird and Grapeshot - the win-cons. Blistercoil's combination with Paradise Mantle allows for infinite cantrips/card draw, which fuels either of these. If you're having trouble getting through with the weird, sideboard in some Delve-based removal.
Cerulean Wisps
, Gitaxian Probe and Manamorphose are key cards in this deck as they enable you to get ahead on mana, enough to cast two-cost spells.
Since Blistercoil Weird and Paradise Mantle are both automatic 4-ofs, cards like Faithless Looting and
Ideas Unbound
provide cheap and efficient ways to get new cards in our hands while filtering out redundant ones.
Scrying is amazing in this deck, as it allows us to filter out redundancies and extra lands before they make it to our hand. Ponder, Preordain, and Opt all do this job amazingly well, particularly Preordain.
Alternate Versions:
This deck is also easily convertible to Modern. Pull out the Ponder, Preordain, and Opt, and instead put in some Mystic Speculation, Sleight of Hand and Serum Visions.
