Key Cards

• The Book of Exalted Deeds: The deck is all-in on its second ability.
• Mutavault and Faceless Haven: The targets for Book. As creature lands, they can be difficult to remove.

Tutors

• Search for Glory: Can find Book, Faceless Haven, Snow-Covered Plains, and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre. The plains is a common target, given that Book costs {W}{W}{W} (twice) and the creature lands are colorless.

Isochron Scepter

• Isochron Scepter: Works well with the four different playsets of instants. Stalls for time before the lock, and protects the lock once it is out.
• Surge of Salvation: Protects the lock, including the land, the Scepter, and the Book. Also prevents hand disruption and other threats that target you.
• Pact of Negation: Protects the lock, especially if activating Book leaves you tapped out.
• Orim's Chant: Stalls for time. Prevents counterspells the turn Book is cast. Protects the creature land on the turn it is activated. Protects from late-game sorcery-speed threats, like Emrakul, the Aeons Torn.
• Silence: Similar to Orim's Chant. Less effective at stalling against creatures that have already been played, but gets around hexproof.

Ramp

• Lotus Bloom: Can get Book out a turn earlier. Enables Pact of Negation in a pinch.

Inevitability

• Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre: A necessary inclusion to win the kinds of degenerate games that this deck sometimes invites. It's usually a dead draw, but it's also a way to win if the opponent can protect themselves from losing or being decked. It can either attack with annihilator, or it can be cast, countered yourself, and shuffled back into the deck for unlimited "destroy target permanent" triggers. The graveyard recursion can also be helpful even if it isn't necessary to avoid losing the game. A downside is that annihilator can backfire if Ulamog is stolen, but that is mitigated by Orim's Chant.

The sideboard has an alternate wincon with Axis of Mortality and Shefet Dunes, which can replace Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre if the opponent has theft effects. Many decks have answers to this though, so it is not the main strategy.

The deck is not kind, but it is fun to build around. Any thoughts or suggestions are encouraged!
