I've always loved merfolk ever since I saw an article talking about them. For my birthday I got some money so i finally bought the deck that I spent a while designing but it's still not what I would like for it to be.
I made this deck off the idea that I could continuously spawn tokens and gain life at the same time. Normally i try to get a Stonybrook Banneret out asap. If that's not possible its not too big of a deal. With at least one Judge of Currents out on the field I can freely use Summon the School to spawn tokens, then I can use those tokens, plus some other merfolks hopefully on the field already, to get Summon the School back into my hand. If Judge of Currents is out I would gain 4 life just from that.
If I'm able to get Merrow Commerce out onto the field, I am able to freely use the above combo without worrying about leaving some creatures open to block the potential attack from my attack, and with all the tokens I'm spawning i have plenty of chump blockers.
If I have a Stonybrook Schoolmaster out on the field, I can use him as one of the merfolk that I tap to return Summon the School to my hand. In doing this I get 1 extra token, giving me 3 instead of 2.
And with all the tokens, they allow me to freely use Lullmage Mentor's second ability to counter spells and somewhat control my opponent.
Wanderwine Prophets, with Master of the Pearl Trident on the field is just more fun than should be allowed. With this combo, mixed with my tokens, the opponent is dead. That's IF I get this combo out though. I can also use this combo indefinitely to gain unlimited amounts of life. I attack with Wanderwine Prophets, sack a token, take an extra turn, rinse and repeat.
The card: Harpoon Sniper's are there primarily for field control. They allow me to help defend myself mainly against flying, but they can also help destroy blockers allowing my attacks to go through.
Then I have the Aquitect's Will to make sure that my islandwalk works. I feel it's a necessity in this deck, though I may reduce the quantity of them in my deck. They would definitely be material for sideboarding out as well.
As for the sideboard, I have no clue what to put in there. Please comment and help!
