That's right, it's time to make Wizards of the Coast regret unbanning
Protean Hulk
. First off the land count may seem high, but with a playset of
Contingency Plan
,
Taigam's Scheming
, and a whole bunch of other top deck manipulation they don't seem to hurt the deck. One more thing before we get deeper into the deck and its play style. On average the deck wins between turns 3 and 5 occasionally being delayed to turn 6
Okay, back to the deck's play style. Your first objective is to hit at least one
Contingency Plan
or
Taigam's Scheming
and from then on they chain together really well (especially with other cantrips added in), which will be used throw
Protean Hulk
into the graveyard. (BTW, if you draw into too many
Protean Hulk
s, the one
Mogg Fanatic
, or 2 of any of the other creatures you can just use
Thirst for Knowledge
to drop them in the graveyard.) Once you've completed this move on to digging through your library for
Footsteps of the Goryo
. Now, as you've probably guessed already, cast
Footsteps of the Goryo
to return
Protean Hulk
and kill it at the end of the turn, which will lead you to the real reason that you should play
Protean Hulk
.
The Combo (proceed to play this out once
Protean Hulk
is sacrificed):
Step 1) use the
Protean Hulk
die/tutor ability to put
Viscera Seer
and
Body Double
into play
Step 2) have
Body Double
ETB as a copy of
Protean Hulk
Step 3) sacrifice
Body Double
(aka
Protean Hulk
) into
Viscera Seer
to tutor up
Mogg Fanatic
and
Reveillark
Step 4) sacrifice
Mogg Fanatic
to itself to ping your opponent for 1
Step 5) sacrifice
Reveillark
to
Viscera Seer
to reanimate
Mogg Fanatic
and
Body Double
Step 6) have
Body Double
ETB as a copy of
Reveillark
Step 7) sacrifice
Mogg Fanatic
to itself to ping your opponent for 1
Step 8) sacrifice
Body Double
(aka
Reveillark
) into
Viscera Seer
to reanimate itself (
Body Double
) and
Mogg Fanatic
Steps 9...) repeat "Step 6-8" for as long as needed to get kill your opponent
WHY USE THIS COMBO:
1) If
Protean Hulk
is targeted by
Surgical Extraction
or
Extirpate
you can still continue to combo off by dumping the rest of the combo pieces other than
Viscera Seer
(
Body Double
,
Mogg Fanatic
, and
Reveillark
) into the graveyard. THEN PROCEED TO...
A) cast
Viscera Seer
B) use
Footsteps of the Goryo
to reanimate
Reveillark
C) continue by repeating "Step 5-9"
2) If
Viscera Seer
is targeted by spot removal (
Path to Exile
,
Fatal Push
,
Lightning Bolt
, etc) you can sacrifice it to itself. THEN PROCEED TO...
A) sacrifice
Reveillark
or
Body Double
(as a copy of
Reveillark
) to
Viscera Seer
in response
B) sacrifice
Viscera Seer
to itself in response
C) use the
Reveillark
LTB ability to reanimate
Viscera Seer
and
Body Double
D) continue by repeating "Step 5-9"
BTW, I am still deciding whether to make the side board more focused on hate cards for other decks (
Leyline of Sanctity
,
Leyline of the Void
,
Damping Sphere
,
Stony Silence
, etc) or a protective shell for this deck's combo. ALL THOUGHTS/SUGGESTIONS ON THIS TOPIC WOULD BE APPRECIATED. Next, I am still deciding whether to splash white in the deck's mana base in for the times I may have to hard cast
Reveillark
due to disruption caused by the opponent, not to mention it would also provide more options for side board. ALL THOUGHTS/SUGGESTIONS ON THIS TOPIC WOULD BE APPRECIATED. Outside of these topics all other ideas, suggestions, critique, etc WOULD BE APPRECIATED as well.
Now that seems to rap up my explanation for the deck. I hope you liked this deck and if wouldn't mind supporting me and the decks I design on Tapped Out simply giving the deck an UPVOTE WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
