The Most Powerful EDH Deck Ever!

Welcome! You are now looking at the most powerful EDH deck ever created by man†. That's right, this really is the most potent†, the most persistent†, and the mightiest deck since the dawn of all existence†. Exercise Caution: this deck is so powerful even the Eldrazi run in dread, it’s so strong, Omniscience isn’t good enough, and so hardy, even Chuck Norris bows his head in respect††. It really is… but in case you haven’t noticed all the asterisks by now... it comes with a catch...

†Allow me to explain...

This really is the most powerful deck in EDH... Card per Card. The thing is, if you gave every card a 1-10 rating for its stand-alone power and then added up the values for the deck, this deck would score higher than any other, I’m sure of it. The number of Cheatable 8-10 drops, combined with a dozen OP cards under 5cmc, ensures that this deck drops bomb after bomb, and is always a threat on the table.

Of course, what we aren't accounting for is synergy between cards… or combo potential… or really any sort of cleverness at all. So if you want an intelligent deck to steer through a web of politics and deceit, then you're in the wrong place. But if you want the ultimate battlecruiser, Jodah is here for you.

Oh, and this won’t be beating any cEDH decks either. Here we play proper Commander, gentlemen’s EDH, where a turn 5 infinite combo is nothing but a waste of shuffle-time…†††

Our game-plan is simple, cheat out something horrendous by t.4 or t.5 and start smashing face. For this we start with Jodah, and run enough t.1 / t.2 ramp spells to get him out by t.3, as well as enough lands to get WUBRG by turn 4, this means we can drop one of: Blightsteel Colossus, Expropriate, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, Myojin of Night's Reach, Storm Herd, or Aminatou's Augury, and there are enough of them in there to make sure we average 2 in every 11 cards.

.

So what if Jodah dies? You remember all that ramp right? Well that plan is for simpletons, we can do one better!

Enter the 5 drops, every conceivable Over-Powered Magic card costing 5 mana or less. Why 5? It fits into our curve to ensure we’re doing something, even if Jodah dies. It might not be Ulamog, but we’ll still be dropping cards at an insanely high power level, cards like Bribery, Arena Rector, Defense of the Heart, Treachery and Bring to Light. That’s our gamepan, we don’t do backup, we don’t care about ramp, and we don’t waste good slots on limp-wristed counter-magic. We’re going to cheat out the fatties, Jodah or not.

You may then, be the recipient of a lot of hatred and opportunity-knocks. The deck suffers from an appalling reputation, and while it does have some solutions, there aren’t enough to sustain a full game of taking beats. So play Jodah like an aggro deck (think old-school Kaalia) don’t worry about the counter, and be merciless, targeting the player most likely to knock you from the top. You may have to deal with one or two problem cards, but the best way to stop any army… chop off its head!

Don’t believe me? Give it a playtest and let me know what you think, I’m always looking for new ways to improve on any deck ;)

So there is one ‘incidental’ combo if that’s your thing, but it’s a little convoluted and very easy to disrupt. Nevertheless it is possible, and you can always drop this later if you’re feeling tired of watching other people play magic…

Warning - this is a long one.

What you need: A ramp spell for t.3 Jodah, 4 lands by turn 4, Bringer of the Black Dawn in hand and at least 13 Life!

t.1/2: Ramp

t.3: Play Jodah

t.4: play 4th land, cast Bringer – both BoB and Jodah need to survive.

t.5: In your upkeep use BoB to Tutor Time Stretch, and draw it for turn. Main phase, cast Time Stretch for WUBRG thanks to Jodah. (We’re now at T+2, 2 extra turns after this one, aka, the bullshit phase).

  1. Extra turn 1: Tutor Mirari's Wake and cast it. (T+1)
  2. Extra turn 2: Tutor Naya Charm. You should now have 9/10 mana depending on what sort of ramp spell you had. Either way it’s enough to cast the charm and pick-up the Time Stretch from your graveyard. Make sure you tap correctly, then cast the Time Stretch again for two more turns after this one. (T+2)
  3. Extra turn 3: Tutor Praetor's Counsel, cast it, and pick up the Time Stretch and Naya Charm (and if you’re lucky a land). (T+1)
  4. Extra turn 4: Tutor Zacama, Primal Calamity. Cast him to untap all your lands, then Cast Time Stretch a third time and cast the charm to pick it straight back up! (T+2)
  5. Extra turn 5: Tutor Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, or Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre (but do not cast them!), instead cast Time Stretch a 4th time! (We’re now at three extra turns after this one!), Use spare mana to gain 3 life with Zacama and we’re no longer dying to BoB. (T+3)
  6. Extra turn 6, Tutor for Wheel of Fortune/Windfall, cast it, we all draw a new hand, then thanks to Kozilek you shuffle your graveyard into Library. Play a land or something, and Gain 6 life with Zacama. (T+2)

Extra turn 7 – (This is technically a ‘free turn’ not required to loop the combo, you can use it to find anything you want, but you’re about to start looping wheels, so just bank it, and then…)

Enter the Loop (Finally)

A) Tutor Time Stretch and cast (T+2), gain 3+ Life with Zacama.

B) Tutor Naya Charm and recast Time Stretch. (T+3)

C) Tutor Kozilek, or Ulamog (don’t cast), gain 6+ life with Zacama. (T+2)

D) Tutor Wheel or Windfall and cast, gain 6+ life with Zacama. (T+1)

E) Repeat from Step A (T+0)

We’re now at infinite life and infinite turns. If beating them to death isn’t enough, the whole table is wheeling through their libraries except us because of Kozilek. There’s a chance that isn’t good enough, but we now have access to our entire deck one wheel at a time: You can cast Bribery for every creature in their deck, or +1 Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh a hundred times, the world is your oyster.

And don’t forget you’re carrying that extra turn over from the setup phase, so you get one tutor as a freebie. And that’s it! Thanks for reading ^^

††Chuck Norris has never actually bowed to Jodah, Chuck Norris bows to No-One.
