Sideboard

This is my attempt to make a rock deck, but with white instead of green. Why, you ask? Well, I want to get a shot at playing modern without breaking the bank for cards like liliana, goyf, etc. This is a cheaper, budget deck that actually still gets to play some pretty powerful cards while hitting all of the bases it needs to hit removal wise.

Sure, this means we don't get Abrupt Decay, Maelstrom Pulse, Golgari Charm, etc... But we also now get to MD Path to Exile, Blood Baron of Vizkopa, Tidehollow Sculler, Lingering Souls, and have sideboard answers for artifacts and enchantments like Stony Silence. Batwing Brume is death to all Twin variants, and has a lot of game against strategies like affinity/any all in aggro deck. We can also still hate the yard with Rest in Peace, and white can also give us some lifegain against burn in the form of Nyx-Fleece Ram to stonewall ground assaults against several matchups.

Additionally, I believe that modern and other eternal formats are all about winning your way and using the vast collection of magic cards out their to make new and innovating decklists. I really, really like to win games of magic, but I also really, really dislike netdecking in order to do it. This doesn't mean I play janky decks, but I just play less conventional arrangements of strategies like Rock/Midrange or Combo-aggro. I am consequently a big fan of cards like Nivmagus Elemental and Falkenrath Aristocrats.

Anyway, the deck itself features some head-scratchers.

Temporal Extortion : This card is only a 1 of, but since my manabase is primarily black, we can make it work. It seems very powerful for the late game when our opponent just doesn't see it coming and doesn't have the life to pay in tribute. Along a similar vein is....

Main Threats:

So far, I've come up with 6 different creatures I'll be playing. Maybe 7 as I split things up differently after reviewing the extensive amount of spells I can play in this scheme in modern (on gatherer, over 1000, and that's excluding commons).

Tidehollow Sculler

Stillmoon Cavalier

Phyrexian Obliterator

Blood Baron of Vizkopa

Lingering Souls

Fence:

High Priest of Penance

Sin Collector

Pack Rat

Orzhov Pontiff

I think Pack Rat is leading the pack (I know) out of the fence crew. It might just replace the Tidehollow Scullers entirely, but I don't know if ratty is really used to his maximum in a build that doesn't run mutavaults. I could test a split at first and see which one has been better for me.

Overall, the plan is to play kill spells and hand disruption, with the occaisional card advantage spell mixed in, while setting up bombs like Obliterator, Temporal Extortion, or BBV.

Kill Spells:

So, this one is still up for debate and I'll take any suggestions on the most efficient Orzhov kill spells out there (hint, there's a lot to choose from). Obviously, things like Path to Exile and Dismember are must haves. But past that, we have guys like Doom Blade, Victim of Night, Geth's Verdict (love edicts), Ultimate Price, Bile Blight, Hero's Downfall, Mortify (although against this meta we don't see many relevant enchantments other than blood moon, and would rather have the affinity hate in putrefy), Go for the Throat, Terror, Murderous Cut, and probably plenty more I'm forgetting.

My first draft of removal suite will probably include a safe number of each, with more 4 ofs than 1 ofs, and then I can slowly refine it to the right number of each spell.
