The Thrax Tax

Commander / EDH

Sideboard

We all know the famous The Taxmaster using Oloro, Ageless Ascetic and here comes the Thrax Tax!

Thaximundar's Tax Plan

To start with your opponents will be under your tax plan and prevented from casting the cards they want when you use Invoke Prejudice with Nether Void. To help tax more specified spells you can use AEther Barrier and In the Eye of Chaos

To protect you on your turn you have Defense Grid and Crawlspace and Propaganda as a generic tax.

If your opponents refuse to pay your tax you can force Capital Punishment and Curse of the Cabal with a last resort to cast Reign of the Pit to truly bring your safety up.

The major focus of the Thrax Tax plan is to make your opponents sacrafice their permanents and creatures and with It That Betrays you can truly use their taxes to fund your army.

As a final notion of the Thrax tax, sometimes drastic measures must be taken, so to do this you have Mind Grind, Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker and Consuming Aberration to remove any chance of your opponents posing a threat.

Additionally Venser's Journal can be used to maintain the health and balance of your government.

Sideboard

As the sideboard sits it is based upon adding life as my experience playing this is how easy it is to drain your life so it is more geared towards different ways of gaining life simply from your opponents playing spells, which you are already slowing down and making more difficult.

Strategy

Early game: Stay alive and ramp up mana, there are a couple mana rocks in this deck such as Sol Ring and Thran Dynamo that can easily boost your mana production capability. If you have a free mulligan or partial mulligan or both, use them to attempt to get these along with about 3-4 mana.

Mid Game: By this point you should have ramped and just keep focus on keeping up a tax that makes it difficult for your opponents to attack you and or cast spells. If you can then bring Thrax out and start building him up through attacking and force their hand at sacrificing creatures.

Late Game: Complete control, if they put a creature on the field, they sacrifice it or it simply dies from a more powerful creature, they cast a spell, punish them however you can. Use Ice Cave and counter anything they play and keep their lands tapped. By this point you will focus on milling them or damaging them, either way you keep complete control of the battlefield.

Weaknesses

The weaknesses to this deck are quite obvious of either extremely fast decks, dedicated mill or control decks, and token decks. Once late game is achieved it is very difficult to shut down this deck unless you were unable to fully initiate the tax plan in the mid game.

Strengths

Decks that focus on bringing out creatures or that focus on very specific combos lose their power compared to this. This deck also fares well against large creatures such as hydra's and extremely well against mono colored decks.

Shoutout

I would like to shutout to Lhurgyof as this deck was inspired by his deck The Taxmaster and although slightly different, it works similarly. The point of this deck is to bring back memories of Thraximundar, the second most hated commander of my playgroup with the most hated still being Oloro.

Any suggestions would be appreciated as I am still new to this but this deck is one that I definetely find fun to play.
