Standard* BG (Golgari) Combo Competitive Dredge

Putrefy

Sideboard

What I love about this deck:

  • It makes DRS a viable and useful card in Standard.
  • It can do ridiculous GY-tricks that offer you possible T4 wins. (and doesn't run out of breath like most hyper-aggressive decks do).
  • It has more synergy than any other Deck in Standard right now (I don't consider devotion synergy, as your only aim is to play sub-par creatures like Frostburn Weird or Cloudfin Raptor to have maximum devotion so that your 4/5 Drops win the game for you - why exactly is Gary not a Mythic or at least Rare?).
  • You can steal games you shouldn't have any business with, if you top deck a Nighthowler or Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord at the right moment (steal them in style and not "herpderp Gary lololol").

What I hate about this deck:

  • since it has so much synergy you need your draws to be on-point most of the time.
  • nothing else really.

There might be some points for discussion:

  • Is 21 lands appropriate or too few? You can argue either way, you have 4, respectively 8 Mana-Dorks which is a lot. But you need 2 Lands most of the time to make this deck work. However relying on creatures to produce your mana leaves you vulnerable against U/W/x control. Also the addition of Satyr Wayfinder smoothens the mana-issues quite a bit

  • The sideboard. This is a major discussion point, because I play B/G and that gives me so many good and viable cards to choose from. And that is where I need your help and opinions.

One of the greatest weaknesses of this deck is, that I have no instant speed removal in my maindeck. I need to rely on the fact, that, if me and my opponent both develop our board, mine is better at the end of the day. Made possible by T3 Nemesis of Mortals , T3 Shadowborn Demon, T2 Lotleth Troll bestowed with Nighthowler and if the game is stalled Jarad can pull some triggers. But since I rely heavily on my creature base and don't really want it to take a hit from sideboarding - what do I take out to bring in instant-speed removal. And against which decks is it really necessary?

Let me explain why I chose which card:

  • Golgari Charm: Comes in against W/x aggro and control. Such an amazing and versatile card. I just love it.
  • Abrupt Decay: Against R/W devotion and U/W control (though most of the times, Charm is enough)Scavenging Ooze: Against opposing Dredge decks (it has grown in popularity) and against very aggressive decks.
  • Mistcutter Hydra: against Mono-Blu or U/W control.
  • Lotleth Troll : against Mono-Black, he is a nice beater, they cannot deal with easily.

I just love Golgari. After watching some Videos of this deck in action and playing a few games with it, my spark got re-ignited. I've fallen for it again. Hopefully it will be a surprise to most of the guys at my LGS and I can set another good Game-Day finish :)
