Paper Pauper Mono-Blue Islandwalking Merfolk
Mono-U Tideshaper Mystic + Harbor Serpent = Mono-Blue Beatdowns!

Play creatures with Islandwalk and then turn your opponent's lands into Islands.

  • Reef Shaman/Tideshaper Mystic/Tidal Warrior and Aquitect's Will are the key cards in this deck. Make sure you have some in your opening hand. These cards can turn your opponent's lands into Islands, which is essential to your Islandwalking strategy.
  • The main islandwalking creatures are Merfolk Spy and Harbor Serpent. By the time the big guy is ready to attack, you should have all the land-type-switching power you need.
  • The standard, blue Unsummon-a-problem-creature-then-Counterspell-it-when-the-opponent-tries-to-cast-it-again trick is included for board control.
  • Fleeting Distraction is included as more board control. Shut down an annoying pinger and draw a card, or take 1 damage off of a large attacker--and draw a card.
  • Next, Refocus is included as another form of board control. Untap a redundant islandwalker, or a big-assed Harbor Serpent and surprise-block any a---ole trying to be cute. Oh, and, draw a card.
  • And finally, 24 lands help you ensure make your first six land-plays (so you can cast Harbor Serpent). 8 of those 24 can be cycled instead of played. Remote Isle and Lonely Sandbar enter tapped, when played, so just make sure you save an Island to play on T6 for Harbor Serpent).
