Fringe Homebrew

Avg CVC: 1.95

This build that revolves around three artifacts: Isochron Scepter , Sword of the Meek , and Thopter Foundry .

The deck uses Isochron Scepter ‘s imprint effect on cards like Angelsong & Dawn Charm to employ a pillow-fort strategy that repeatedly prevents combat damage.

Supported by a UW Control shell and Tempo theme, the deck interacts by countering and removing threats while digging for key pieces.

It wins using Sword of the Meek & Thopter Foundry to create an army of flying thopters to overwhelm your opponent.

It's important to remember that any of the instants in this deck can be imprinted with Isochron Scepter. That includes cards like Counterspell and Path to Exile. Make keen decisions to determine what spells to use and n Isochron Scepter. Different decks require different strategic action.

When Isochron Scepter enters the battlefield its imprint effect will immediately trigger.

Choose an instant with CVC or less from your hand and place it into exile. That card is now imprinted onto that Scepter and only that Scepter.

simply tap , tap isochron scepter, copy the imprinted spell in exile, and cast it.

Always remember to keep enough mana open to use Isochron Scepter. Although this should be obvious, if you don't pay enough attention to how much mana is left open for scepter, your opponent can slip through with an answer.

If a Scepter is removed while a card is imprinted on it, that card in exile is no longer associated with Scepter and is simply in exile. That specific copy of that card can no longer be copied and cast via Scepter. Remember, if you have multiple scepters in play, you cannot simply use any scepter to copy and cast any spell. Each scepter has a card in exile associated specifically with it and no other scepter.

Thopter Foundry + Sword of the Meek

This combo will allow you to create as many blue 1/1 flying thopters you can afford to make, and you'll gain life every time you make one. Once you get this combo going there's usually very little that can be done to beat it pre-sideboard. Getting this win condition online early can be particularly devastating.

Once both artifacts are on the field and you have open land, you can start comboing off. Activate Thopter Foundry by Tapping then sacrifice Sword of the Meek. You will create a blue flying 1/1 thopter and gain 1 life. Sword of the Meek notices a 1/1 enter the battlefield and triggers. Sword of the Meek enters the battlefield and you may then attach it to the 1/1 thopter for free. Rinse and repeat as many times as needed. You will get a flying 1/1 thopter and gain life equal to the number of times you can afford to pay for it.

It's usually best to get Sword of the Meek onto the field first before Thopter Foundry. You can get Sword of the Meek back out of the graveyard at any time by saccing an artifact to Thopter Foundry. In this instance, it's usually best to play another Thopter Foundry and sac one of them to get Sword of the Meek back out of the graveyard. However, you will need Academy Ruins to get Thopter Foundry back out of the graveyard if countered or destroyed.

If your opponent kills the 1/1 thopter before Sword of the Meek enters the battlefield, it does not cause sword of the meek's trigger to fizzle. You still have the option to choose whether it enters the battlefield even though the 1/1 that triggered the effect is no longer in play.

Be careful completely tapping out to make your thopter tokens. This window of opportunity is most often used by your opponents to remove Thopter Foundry or Sword of the Meek. Unless you know it will get you the win, it's best to leave one or two mana open so you can respond with a spell or sack Thopter Foundry to itself if it's getting exiled or removed.

Keep in mind that you generally want to make thopter tokens at the end of your opponent's turn. This allows you to have mana open on their turn to respond any possible spells, avoid any board wipes, and to create blockers for any new creature threats.

I decided to remove Silence, Narset, and Teferi from the deck because that combo just wasn't worth all the trouble. It's too easy to get around with instants and aggro. I felt like I needed to remove it to make make room for more counter and tutors to make the deck run more smoothly.
