I wanted to make a fairly inexpensive legacy deck with some of the cards I had in my hovel. One day, I found a
Puresight Merrow
under my bed. I always wanted to make a deck with him in it, and I love combo decks! So I formed a classic combo deck with
Puresight Merrow
with Paradise Mantle to basically rig my deck or counter all spells with Counterbalance or mill myself... I thought Laboratory Maniac would be the perfect card to win with.
Now I know that Legacy is an extremely competitive and fast paced format and a 3 card combo doesn't really make it in most matches.
THE HUNT
To get all of the puzzle pieces I added Birthing Pod, Brainstorm, Ponder and Enlightened Tutor, yeah only one real tutor!
Merrow Harbinger
is to help search only as a last resort, It's main function is to counter four drops with the help of the combo and Counterbalance.
PROTECTION
Force of Will is an obvi-must for ensuring my merfolk doesn't bite it with a Lightening Bolt or a Path to Exile. I added Spell Pierce to deal with other control decks and Path to Exile to handle the big boys or even to help me get an extra land if I want some ramp. The combo of Sensei's Divining Top and Counterbalance works perfectly with this deck, as the top can be replaced by the
Puresight Merrow
combo.
DISRUPTION
I added Meddling Mage cause Chris Pikula is cool, and Gitaxian Probe because it's useful for preparing for what is to come! These cards also happen to be useful if you are a smart player who knows how to play your opponents deck. With the amaza-za-zing ability to disrupt other combo decks as well as stopping any chance of Monastery Mentor hoards, these two cards can stop 'central' cards in opponents decks like Show and Tell.
LANDS
I chose the basic snow lands because then I can get something with my Path to Exile, when most people in legacy can't. They also have protection from Wastelands which is Tight!! I did not add Tundra but if you have a G ($1000) to drop on a magic deck go for it! I'd sub them in for the Glacial Fortress. Most of the budget is spent on the lands, I mean you can go all basic if that's how you roll, but the consistency will be wigged off.

This deck is made for the smarter than average magic player who is familiar with how most decks in the Legacy format run.
+1 only if you love it and comment with suggestions only if you care.
