None of my Commander decks focused on greens ramping ability, or all of the mana doubling/tripling that is out there, and my collection was building up with all of the Green ramp mana doubling/tripling cards so I decided I wanted to use them. Building a green based stompy/lands matter deck using Crater Hoof or Triumph of the hordes as win cons did not appeal to me. However, looking around for different themes that takes advantage of copious amounts of mana I landed on X Spells. The profound impact they can have on a game when enough mana is put into them sort of got me pretty excited. So with that decision made I started looking around for commanders, and apparently I'm fairly competitive because I ended up with the partner Commanders Thrasios and Vial Smasher. I liked that Vial Smasher would allow me to "smash" face even if my X spell was countered, and Thrasios added the 2 other colors that are important for access to some of the more powerful X-spells out there, and of course Green so I could use all those cards I'd been saving up. Just a FYI - I came to this decision near the end of a Commander League I'm in back near the end of 2019 before Covid. I didn't know what Commander 2020 was going to bring, specifically Zaxara. I did think about switching directions, but I liked what red had to offer for this build, and I still wanted Vial Smasher's ability, so I stuck with my original direction.
