Maybeboard

Imagine a zombie, the size of an entire graveyard, constantly mutating, growing larger and more destructive. He starts out small and unassuming, then all of a sudden he explodes in size, and despite your best efforts, you can't keep him down.

This is Skullbriar, in a nutshell.

It's a fairly straight-forward strategy: Mulligan until you have a hand that guarantees a green and a black mana available on turn two, drop Skullbriar, and start attacking.

We of course run a load of cards that put extra counters on creatures (Primarily Skullbriar). These should be plopped down as soon as possible to make sure that we can outrace the size of our opponents' blockers. It's no good if we can't attack, or Skullbriar dies as soon as he attacks, because he's not large enough.

Trample is absolutely essential, as we need to deal damage to our opponents to grow Skullbriar in the early-to-mid game. Trample also interacts with Deathtouch in an interesting way: You only need to deal one damage to a blocker to kill it, thus all other damage goes through.

Our removal is sort of sparse, relying on forcing our opponents to block our massive creatures to keep their creature counts at bay. Nevertheless, we do run a few single target removal spells and a couple of sweepers, in case of being forced to put our strategy on the back-burner. One great thing about Skullbriar is that he has haste, so wiping the board isn't as much of an imposition, as long as we have enough mana to replay him again.

If Skullbriar gets hated out early, it's not the end of the world for us either. Many of our utility creatures can pivot into a competent go-wide strategy if we can't afford to keep Skullbriar in play.
