"Tomorrow's harvest is reaped by those who sow its seeds today.

Tomorrow is a deck that I've been working on for about five years now. In that time, it's gone through many shifts, though the core idea of the deck has always been the same. Given that he's one of the lesser played blue generals, and that the deck itself is a bit tricky to work with, I thought it might be helpful to write a mini-manual of sorts to assist those that might be interested in building a lesser-known but still powerful mono blue deck.

The Deck Show

The basis of this deck is abusing Tomorrow's ability to dig. And when I say dig, I mean grabbing a shovel and tunneling through your deck at blistering speed. With Tomorrow out, when you cast a Day's Undoing, you're sifting through twenty-one cards. That's almost assured to get you to either more juice, or a critical combo piece, which gives the deck a sort of explosive factor similar to Mizzix or Nekusar. That being said, digging through all those cards takes an intimate knowledge of both every card in the deck and their uses in any particular situation, otherwise your opponents may just concede (or beat you up) as you try to resolve your draw spells.

Tomorrow himself is an unusual creature. He's not going to be swinging anytime soon, but that's far from the point of the deck. His fat body can provide decent blocks, and his primarily colorless casting cost gives you flexibility when dropping him. I usually prefer to cast him when I can immediately protect him, drop a fat draw spell, or outright for for a win; his rather high CMC discourages being reckless when putting him on the board.

Win Conditions Show

Laboratory Maniac Blue Sun's Zenith Possessed Portal

Labman's the simplest condition, fulfilled by drawing one's deck with Enter the Infinite or Blue Sun's Zenith after making infinite mana with Palinchron or Tidespout Tyrant.

Possessed Portal can force concessions with Tomorrow out by locking your opponents out. Because Possessed Portal and Tomorrow both have draw replacement effects, you can use Tomorrow to replace your draws first, meaning you can effectively "draw" cards while your opponents can't. If they have no immediate answers to the Portal, they have to sacrifice or discard every single turn. As long as you keep a draw spell in hand, you can use Tomorrow to keep filtering through to juice until your opponents have no hands or fields.

The Rest of the Deck Show

Outside of the combo pieces, this deck can be divided into several categories. One is Answers, which primarily consist of counterspells, along with a few bounce and theft effects that should be used primarily to get rid of things that win the game. In a four-player pod, you have to be willing to take damage and only use removal on things that demand it. Tomorrow is all about making these sorts of choices--which cards to keep, which ones to use, and when you need them. I usually like to hold onto cards like Force of Will and Mental Misstep , as they allow me to hardcast more expensive bombs while still keeping up protection. Dropping Omniscience with a Force in hand is an easy line of play to win from.

Another is Ramp, which primarily consists of artifacts, along with High Tide . The latter is best saved for Palinchron or Time Spiral , though using it to pump out a high-cost spell like Omniscience or Enter the Infinite can be worth it if you're good about judging the interaction your opponents have in hand.

The final part of the deck is Draw and Filtering. Because of Tomorrow's effect, cards that directly draw are preferred. Wheels provide immense value as they provide maximum dig for the mana investment. Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur in particular has synergy with Tomorrow, as he is a fantastic drop for Show And Tell, provides constant fuel for Possessed Portal while at the same time stripping hands, and has flash, so you can preserve the ability to interact as you prepare to drop him. Gitaxian Probe is essentially a free Anticipate, so it should be saved until you can cast Tomorrow. Read the Runes' sacrifice effect also doesn't take effect with Tomorrow out, making it an extremely undercosted instant-speed draw spell.

Piloting the Deck Show

Tomorrow requires you to be able to decide in an instant which type of card is most necessary for you at any given moment. Typically, the deck ramps a bit with artifacts first--a hand without any rocks is usually not a keeper, as it plays horrifically slowly otherwise--removes or counters a key card, and prepares to go off with a resolved Tomorrow and a draw spell, a ramped Omniscience/Jin, or a Show and Tell into a bomb. Tutors should be saved to acquire remaining combo pieces or key juice spells, as Tomorrow's filtering is usually enough to result in getting the cards you need, with protection for it to boot.
