When Child of Alara dies, it destroys nonland permanents. If it's your commander, it costs 2 more to get it back from the command zone. What better way to take advantage of both of those than to fill the deck with land?

This deck was a personal challenge; build a deck almost entirely of land, and take advantage of Child of Alara's abilities.

First, I found each land that either could turn into a creature, or generate a creature. That gave me 35 "creature" cards. Then, I put in all the guildgates and Maze's End as a secondary win condition. Obviously the primary win condition is commander damage from Child of Alara.

After the guildgates and the "creature" lands, I found a decent spread of lands that could simulate spell effects or control the board. Lands like The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale makes it difficult for my opponents to keep creatures on the board. Tolaria West allows me to effectively tutor for a land, most likely being the aforementioned Tabernacle, or Diamond Valley - the land that combos best with my commander. Petrified Field allows me to gravefetch a land, and Mystifying Maze and Prahv, Spires of Order help prevent incoming fatties swinging towards me.

In general, the deck is pretty weak as far as commander decks go. But, it adds a bit of a unique flavor to a format that's being oversaturated with Suture Priest and Skirsdag High Priest.
