Maybeboard

Prison deck intended to stifle the opponents' plays with cards like Winter Orb, Trinisphere, Chalice of the Void, and Lodestone Golem while using Urzatron, Metalworker, and Foundry Inspector to accelerate a mana-curve advantage. The deck ramps up quickly to summon heavy hitters like Blightsteel Colossus early via Kuldotha Forgemaster.

Strip Mine and Wasteland bolster the mana prison effect of this deck, especially when playing against multi-colored decks.

Scroll Rack and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon provide card advantage; this is necessary when mana becomes plentiful and the deck would otherwise plateau due to having no more cards in hand. Meanwhile, while one's opponent(s) struggle to cast each spell, making Black Vise even more effective.

Typically this deck creates a vast mana disparity quickly, but Shield Sphere and Phyrexian Revoker allow for extra defense in the first few turns.

This deck has few weaknesses, but among them are the following types of decks:

  • Flying: This deck has little defense against flying decks, although it can usually outpace them especially due to the mana-premium most cards have for the flying ability.

  • Speed Mana: Other decks with creatures that can grant mana (such as Elf and Myr decks) are not as affected by Winter Orb and other mana crippling effects of this deck.

  • Control: Usually control cards like Mind Control and Confiscate are too expensive too late, but an opponent could steal a hard-hitting card from this deck. Acquire would be especially effective. Sculpting Steel can mitigate this weakness, but not fully.
