1. Personal deck building restriction: if a card is in one of my decks, you won't find it in another deck I've built (with the exception of Basic Lands, the Command Tower and the occasional Sol Ring). I introduced this restriction to resist the temptation to use the most powerful tutors and most powerful ramp spells in every single deck. This way I have to consider my choices more carefully.

  2. If I don't like the design, I don't include it - even if it would be very good in my deck.

Kaalia of the Vast: Unbreakable Alliance

Let's face it - this deck wants to attack with Angels, Demons and Dragons! ... (equipped and protected)

Unbreakable Alliance = Angels, Demons and Dragons
Unbreakable Alliance = Equip & Hit - Protect, Deflect!

Unbreakable Alliance: Win Conditions

Combat Damage: This deck is built to win through combat damage. Cast Kaalia of the Vast as early as possible and cheat into play powerful Angels, Demons or Dragons whenever she attacks. Sometimes this already is enough to win the game early. This deck does not make use of activated and triggered abilities abilities - but there are attack triggers (i.e. Kaalia of the Vast). Equipment like Hammer of Nazahn makes your creatures more powerful. Other equipment like Lightning Greaves gives them protection. The combination of Aurelia, the Warleader with Helm of the Host results in infinite combat phases, which most of the time will win the game on the spot. However, the longer the game lasts, the harder it can become to win. This is why a mix of cheap utility creatures like Giver of Runes and Grand Abolisher, a combination of evasive spells like Teferi's Protection and stax pieces like Karmic Justice attempt to slow down your opponents. Hushbringer shuts down your opponents ability to interact through ETB's, Linvala, Keeper of Silence shuts down activated abilities and cards like Flawless Maneuver protect your board. Explosive spells like Jeska's Will and Akroma's Will are there to speed up your gameplay. Once you have the upper hand, swing in for the win!

Lifegain: Use your life as a resource! There are creatures like Serra Ascendant and equipment like Basilisk Collar that can increase your life total quickly early on and a lot more cards that increase your life total throughout the game. Your life with Necropotence creates game ending card advantage, Aetherflux Reservoir can one-shot an opponent and Angel of Destiny can make one opponent per turn loose the game. Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose turns lifegain into damage and Exquisite Blood turns damage into lifegain. Together these two cards are a game-ending combo.
